kind comments concerning the dive. I am looking forward to next years dive.
It will probably be in the early part of August, so if you want try to make

Even though I didn't make the dive(next year for sure), I am going to make a
contribution. Just 2 weeks ago my older sister was diagnosed with breast
cancer and is currently going thru radiation treatments. Ironically, the
both of us have been doing the 'race for the cure' here in Michigan for
years. It always seems to be one of those things that happens 'to others and
not to you'. This really hits home for me. May they find the cure soon.
Ladies, mammograms please!!

I'm sorry to hear that Kristyna. Best of luck to your sister. I am
also going to make a contribution. My mom got breast cancer and was
cured. We got 15 more wonderful years her as a result.

feels sick. Both my wife and her sister have had breast cancer, my wife has
been clean so far, her sister has not been that lucky. I know how you feel, I
know what those tears are like when you feel helpless. I sure hope they find
the cure soon. With all the donations that are going in because of my
seahorses, it just might help. Ladies, I saw the mammogram that saved my wife,
I never got to thank her doctor she was pregnant and left shortly after.

sister's name Denise Moran. I have offered to accompany her to all her
visits(taking time off from work) but she declined. She's a tuff broad(it
runs in the family) and I KNOW we will beat this thing!!!
I thought I saw a past post (George) about you going to the gulf area for a
dive around Thanksgiving(my external server at work is down and my home
server is not doing too well - we're talking major withdrawl). If there is a
dive to be had, I will violate my no travel at Easter, Thanksgiving and
X-mas rule and travel to Florida for a dive.

Kristyna...I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I've mentioned my
good friend here before. She had a double mastectomy....first one
breast and then then other about a year later. They found some cancer
in her lymph nodes. She had chemo, radiation and procedure where
they harvest some cells from her and then give them back to her at a
later date. So far so good and no occurance of any spread of cancer
for her. She is a scuba instructor and was teaching at Dutch with
Glenn and Chris on Saturday before Glenn and Chris came to NY to see
George. She took me out for the river dives a few months ago. She is
doing good. My advice to you after watching my friend go through this
is....just be there. George said exactly the same thing. She will be
very sick and very tired. She will lose her hair. She will have a
permanent tatoo mark from where they mark to set the radiation
machine. She will lose a breast and all that that means .... and we
women know it's beyond a sexual thing to lose a breast. It will
involve her balance...yes those things weight a bit. It will involve
the lymph node system which means not ever being able to have a needle
for blood draw or injection into that arm, watching for cuts etc, not
exercising that arm too much but just enough to prevent it from
blowing up from lymph edema. It will change forever how she buys
clothes and how she looks at herself in the mirror. To help my
friend, I made meals for her so she could freeze them and pull them
out to cook whenever...casserole type things. Her energy level was
very low and she could not cook for her family so the pre-made meals
helped alot. I cleaned her house. I food shopped a few times. I
took her husband's shirts to the dry cleaner and ran errands that she
would normally do but she couldn't because she was too sick. All part
of just being there. If you ever need to / wish to talk about it,
please tell me here and I will email you with my correct addy. If I
don't respond, then yell at me with a separate thread because I miss
some posts. I wish your sister the best...as well as you and the rest
of your family. I have found that the person with the cancer is not
the only one to be touched by this event.... family and friends feel

Thanks George....but the lady I mentioned is not my sister. Although
she is like my sister and one of the group that hangs around with
Chrissy and Glenn and I. We've all been good friends for the past 15
to 18 yrs. You and Chrissy said that you thought you recognized each
other from the quarry.... well then I bet you might know this lady
from the quarry too.

and noises in this newsgroup. I did realize it was a bogus email after
I sent the post. Yes, I can understand your concern about being spammed
and receiving unsolicited mail. This is one of the reasons why I use
deja.com's free email account to tackle that problems. If you feel that
trust cannot be established between us then disclosing your email is

do not trust. Anyway, the question about Coz was answered by one my
online friend (she had experience diving at Coz and also a divemaster
like you, I think). Now speaking of Coz, I think it would be
comforting, for safety reason, to have a nurse as a dive guide. With

Just a belated thanks for answering my question about the meaning
of "old salt". I was raised in San Diego (a military town for Navy, Air
Force, and Marine) and I have never heard that words from any of the
service men I have encountered. Anyway, good to hear that there are few
good assistants answering for OldSalt. The word "Old" here could have
been implied as "Wise". Sorry of getting off topic.

It would not be "wise" in my case. <g> To be honest with you Eric,
I have no idea why I chose OldSalt as a nick here. I may have been
thinking about my sailboat... or thinking about using salt in cooking
something.... or thinking about my hair showing some gray and needing
a coloring. LOL I only use that nick for Usenet.... I have many
other nicks for IRC and Palace. (Cinamin, Cinamax, CinCin,

Actually I used many more than that Bob.....but that is just on IRC
and Palace. I've only used OldSalt here on Usenet...except as a joke
when I posted a few things as Cinderella. Here on Usenet, you see a
nick and then whatever email addy the person uses as a means of
identifying them. But on IRC, you can see the person's ISP listing
so it doesn't matter what nick I used then because everyone would see
my Fastnet banner so they knew it was me... that is if they met me
before. It's sort of like doing a header check here on everyone
except on IRC it comes up automatically when you have a certain
script....which I had as an op....and it gives all the info about who
the person is despite what nick they use. As an op, it was also
helpful to switch nicks on IRC because many times ppl would try to
cause trouble and then once I kicked them out of the channel, they
would harass me by sending private messages to my nick or by trying to
"nuke" me with a bombardment of signals to my port. If they were
successful and I was without certain scripts to protect myself,
getting nuked would result in my computer freezing up. You can't have
that if you're supposed to be a channel op and protecting the channel
against take overs from clones or ppl who are flooding the channel
with continuous messages, or with obscenities or who are private
messaging others with unwanted X-rated stuff. It's quite a bit
different there as compared to here. If I went into my old channel
now and used the nick of Bob Crownfield, they would know it was me.
Can't hide there. LOL BTW - I had an outstanding record against
getting nuked. I used to teach classes to the new ops and I provided
them with the scripts they needed to protect themselves. I also had
an auto kick system set up with my "F keys" and a clone detector so
that trouble makers didn't stand a chance with me. I was very good at
what I did. < evil grin >

Hey there George ! :) Vacation was too short... as always...and the
weather was not that cooperative but it was nice to get away. Now
it's back to work and trying to push myself to do some painting and

Having some gray hair a sign of getting "old"? I'm not sure about that.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a lady in her 50s with some gray hair
swimming about a quarter mile out into the sea (about 800 meters round
trip). Well guess what? I followed the same path and did overpass her
within the first 200 meters but from then on I went down hill and she
overpass me by the time I was quarter mile out into the sea. I had to
hold onto the buoy to catch my breath and rest before returning back
into the shore while she continued without stopping... I bet this mama
can still straddle like a horse. Maybe that is what you meant by "old"
eh? Ha Ha Ha.

OK, then I'm going to hunt you down for your email. <joking> I respect
other people's privacy especially personal information since I expect
the same treatment in return. I don't understand people who take joy
hunting for personal information through either third party or from
self-research when the person in question is not willing to disclose
the information requested. Usually for friendship, I don't dig further
than what that person is willing to disclose (I did it once and learned
from my mistake). Unless of course it's for the following purposes:
Resolving criminal cases and performing due diligence for significant
business/financial deals. I don't know about you but I have difficult
time associating myself with those who play sneaking games.
Anyway, using your email to correspond is probably not necessary since
you have enough energy to rummage through all these voluminous posts
directed at you even after you have taken some time off. Of course, as
long as you are able to remind me of any posts I missed like you have
done before, I'll be grateful your service. I hope there is no charge

Sound like a good deal, only if you share a room though. Does wet mouth-
to-mouth demo and massage in your service package? <j/k> Not
remembering your way around Coz might be a good idea, if I follow along
behind you we might end up in some unknown but interesting nude beach
<g>. Speaking of nude, Becca mentioned earlier something about nude
diving. Is that practical? It will definitely maximize my exposure to
sunlight even underwater, which provide a great healing effect on my
skin condition.

I give her credit. I can swim but I have a weird problem after I do a
few laps of freestyle. That is.... I tend to need to burp....
realllllll loud and long. LOL I don't breathe right during my
strokes and so I take on more air than need be. Not so lady-like I
admit.... oh well.

I was not "hot and entertaining" at all. I was an op there and ...
yes... I like to think that I was a fun person to chat with but I also
had a job to do there. If you know IRC, then you know an op is like
a channel moderator. So... while I could be fun one minute, if you
were out of line and didn't obey the rules or were bothering ppl,
then I was the one who kicked your ass off the channel. Barracuda was
a nick that I used when I was pissed off. Ppl who knew me knew that
when I was Barracuda, they best tread softly. The same with
Vendetta. I was an op on two channels there. One is gone.... #35-40
on Undernet. The other is still there.... #40up on Starlink. You can

My own personal philosophy is such : I don't post under my real name.
I guard my privacy in general but I am willing to let my guard down
once I know the person or feel comfortable that they won't harm me.
I've seen alot of weird stuff on IRC and that is my basis for net

don't use your real name then you are nothing but a troll." Hey....
then call me a troll. I know who I am and I know that the things I
tell ppl here about myself are true. I don't lie about anything.
I've seen ppl on IRC get harrassed and I don't need it.

Could be. But how do you know that is her real name ? And... from
the lessons I've learned on IRC, how do you even know that Kristyn is

let's just say that I always suspected that Jody was a man posing as a

It's only practical if you do it in real warm water. Cold water
hurts...not to mention -- as Seinfield says -- the "shrinkage
factor" on males in cold water. Also, in warm water, I would
guard against any "dangling tickle stick" that might be tempting for
a fish to bite.

I think there are more guys that do this out here then there are women
pretending to be men. Don't get me wrong....I liked Jody. She was a
nice person...albeit a tad strange but then again so am I. She used
to make me laugh but I never figured out if she intended to be funny
or if she was serious. Our convos in private chat were always a bit
"off color". It's a common thing to exchange pics on IRC and so when
Jody asked, I said sure. I must admit that I was a little shocked
when she sent me pics of herself...sans clothing. Hahahaha I said
something like.... " Wow Jody....nice pics !" And they were...she
was very pretty. The really odd thing though was that she kept trying
to fix me up with her brother in law...who used to come onto the
channel using the same net addy. (same computer) She said they
lived together but I suspect that this man and Jody were the same
person and, for whatever reason, he enjoyed playing this little game
with me. <grin> The net is very entertaining at times.

I wouldn't want all of those straps and hooks against my skin (the
weight belt and the BC). I go to nude beaches and I will go skinny
dipping, but diving is something else.

I've never tried nude diving Becca.... but if I were going to, I'd
make sure the water was warm. <g> At the nude beaches I visited, I
chickened out. I took my top off but I couldn't bring myself to take
off my bikini bottoms. And I didn't know where to look..... LOL
Now skinny dipping is a different story. One of my dive friends is
famous for getting naked every time we get together. It took him a
few days to do that on the Cuan Lau however. You see the platform is
about 10 or 12 ft from the water. He stood there for a while in all
his glory, debating on the best way to enter the water and protect
his jewels, while the crew laughed and the other divers who did not
know us stood there with their mouths open in amazement. His nude
swim made it into the trip video. Of course, he also takes his
clothes off in my yard every New Years Eve at my house too...even when
there's snow on the ground. To put things into proper perspective so
that you get a clearer picture, he's going on 50, is about 5'5" and
weighs over 200 lbs. His wife simply says.... " Oh, he's at it
again. " I have crazy friends... and that's why I love them. <g>

The Candle
A handsome, middle-aged man walked quietly into the cafe and sat down.
Before he ordered, he couldn't help but notice a group of younger
men at the table next to him. It was obvious they were making
fun of something about him, and it wasn't until he remembered he
was wearing a small pink ribbon on the lapel of his suit that he
became aware of what the joke was all about.
The man brushed off the reaction as ignorance, but the smirks
began to get to him. He looked one of the rude men square in the
eye, placed his hand beneath the ribbon and asked, quizzically, "This?".
With that the men all began to laugh out loud.
The man he addressed said as he fought back laughter, "Hey, sorry
man, but we were just commenting on how pretty your little ribbon
looks against your blue jacket!"
The middle aged man calmly motioned for the joker to come over to
his table and invited him to sit down. As uncomfortable as he
was, the guy obliged, not really sure why.
In a soft voice, the middle aged man said, "I wear this ribbon to
bring awareness about breast cancer. I wear it in my mother's honor."
"Oh, sorry dude. She died of breast cancer?"
"No, she didn't. She's alive and well. But her breasts
nourished me as an infant, and were a soft resting place for my
head when I was scared or lonely as a little boy. I'm very
grateful for my mother's breasts, and her health."
Umm," the stranger replied, "yeah."
"And I wear this ribbon to honor my wife," the middle aged man went on.
"And she's okay, too?", the other guy asked.
"Oh, yes. She's fine. Her breasts have been a great source of
loving pleasure for both of us, and with them she nurtured and
nourished our beautiful daughter 23 years ago.
I am grateful for my wife's breasts, and for her health."
"Uh huh. And I guess you wear it to honor your daughter, also?"
"No. It's too late to honor my daughter by wearing it now.
My daughter died of breast cancer one month ago. She thought she
was too young to have breast cancer, so when she accidentally
noticed a small lump, she ignored it. She thought that since it wasn't
painful,
it must not be anything to worry about."
Shaken and ashamed, the now sober stranger said, "Oh, man, I'm so sorry
mister."
"So, in my daughter's memory, too, I proudly wear this little
ribbon, which allows me the opportunity to enlighten others.
Now, go home and talk to your wife and your daughters, your
mother and your friends. And here . .
" The middle-aged man reached in his pocket and handed the
other man a little pink ribbon.
The guy looked at it, slowly raised his head and asked, "Can you
help me put it on?"
This is breast cancer awareness month. Do regular breast
self-exams and have annual mammograms if you are a woman over the
age of 40. And encourage those women you love to do the same.
Please send this on to anyone you would like to remind of the
importance of breast cancer awareness.

Hey, at least you tried it. Eventually, you might get used to it, but
it isn't for everybody. A good nude beach for newbies is Haulover Beach
in north Miami, the Sunny Isles area. Very friendly people, and a
beautiful beach. Gays tend to hang out around lifeguard stand #26 (not
that there's anything wrong with that). I want to try Apollo Beach, but
I am never in that part of Florida. The nude beaches at New Jersey and
Long Island are very nice. If you go, avoid the weekends, they are
crowded. I wonder if many other divers are also beach lovers?
I'll be in Roatan in just a couple of weeks. Oak Bay Resort in Roatan
offers nude diving, but I chose Paya Bay Resort, they have a private
beach where you can swim nude or just lay on the beach. I like Fantasy
Island, but alas, they offer no nude beach. I guess you can't have it
all.

Your friend sounds gorgeous. LOL! My mom always said, if they were
under 200 lbs, throw 'em back. Life would be boring if we were all
alike, and besides, it's the crazy people who make others feel
normal.<g> It is nice that you (and his wife) can be so tolerant. The
world needs more of that.

I dunno.... I don't really have any desire to visit nude beaches. I
just happened to be on vacation and it was one of those "when in
Rome, do as the Romans do" type of things. In fact, I haven't been
to a Jersey beach in probably 15 yrs. I think they're all too crowded
and I don't enjoy it. That's a big reason why my family goes to NC
for vacation the end of Sept. every year...... I can be the **only**
person on the beach at times and I like that feeling. It gives me
room to think and breathe. I grew up in Philly and spent most of my
life there but now I live on a 10 acre parcel where I can't even see
my neighbor's house. So I can sunbathe in the nude in my own
backyard....or do almost anything I wish in my yard. I like the quiet
and the solitude. It's my "sanctuary" away from the world I suppose.

I don't think it's so much being tolerant as it is just letting
someone be themself. And after being a nurse for 20 yrs, I don't
find any mystery about someone's naked body. <g> I view it as no
big deal and since he isn't hurting anyone, it's no problem. We are
a group of friends who have known each other for 15 + years and we
frequently skinny dip together. However, his wife had breast cancer
and does not skinny dip anymore since her surgery. :( So, out of
respect for her, none of us will either if she is there.

I used to post my full name but stopped when I learned that there were
too many sick hackers online, with so much time on their hands, doing
all kinds of smear campaign. Throughout my life I was able to
physically restrain all the bullies that I came across, but have
difficulty doing so with the troublemakers online. Putting a stop on
their activities are often time consuming and emotionally draining. So
to gain some peace and sanity, I came to term to just play it safe by:
Revealing just my first name, avoiding debates that lead to personal
attack, and just focus on the things that are important and interesting
to me. I also learned to utilize the power of using the proper
authority to handle certain problems and use the legal system when
opportunities knock.
I think we need to be aware that anyone can find out everything about
us through the Internet and other various sources without our
knowledge. Although it is unethical and illegal if misused, for some
reason certain individuals get a kick out of digging personal
information for pure joy (like the person who tried to obtain my
mother’s and my grandmother’s name, the type of cars she owned, and the
place where they lived). But why do it when you can simply ask that
person nicely. For me at least, anyone can find out about my personal
information by asking nicely and having the genuine effort to get to
know me first.

You are right that anyone can easily spoof identity through IRC and
email address. But what you hear on the phone and what you see in real
life can also be deceiving and probably do not always reflect the
person’s real character. So rather than creating suspicion, which often
breed animosity and hatred, I rely more on time and constant
interaction for revealing the truth and character of the person
involved. As for Kristyna, I believe her until there is a solid
evidence to show otherwise. It doesn’t hurt me to believe her now. If
she is lying now, there will always be time for her to reflect and face
the truth. It’s always interesting to hear what an individual has to
say about their revelation. As for Jody, enjoy her pictures until she
show up as a man. <g> If you found him repulsive just show him a
picture of your gun and/or viscous dog <g>

Ha ha ha... I saw that episode about Jorge... How small does it have to
be in order for a woman to burst into laughter? I hope they are only
small fishes that nibble at the dangling stick. It could be a good
thing, since the tickling could transform it into a hardened cucumber.
Is that bad? Hopefully there's no barracuda; it could spell trouble!

I dunno. I admire women who are all prim and proper but I never was
one of those. I don't go in for silk and lace....or at least not on
outer-garments. Hahahaha And if I had to live life worrying about
breaking a fingernail or smudging my makeup.... well, it's just not
me.

Sheesh. I just look over that thread, and came to a realization that it
will take me forever to finish reading the entire thread. Anyway, I
think I have to agree with Jason that you should have a resolvable
email so that someone who needs to contact you privately, whether to
ask you for a dive escorting service or simply for convenience can do
so. I use deja.com and communicating through the newsgroup is almost
impossible, especially for high volume newsgroup like rec.scuba, which
often exceed 100+ posts per day. So if I only follow this newsgroup
once or twice a week and with only about 1-2 hrs per reading time. As
you can see I can easily lose your messages that require my attention,
unless of course I'm kind enough to search for all your posts and
filter those that are intended for me to read and respond. Not quite a
smart and productive way to learn, if you ask me. I guess that is the
primary reason why I preferred to communicate through email when
possible. Not to score and collect emails, but to communicate.
I do agree with you 100% about maintaining privacy though. Let me give
you an example: Say I have a potential deal that is worth about half-a-
million dollar and require some due-diligences on the part of the
customer. Now if this client found a misleading and controversial post
not to his/her liking, then this 1/2 million dollar deal could be lost
right down the drain even if the post has no relevant matter in the
business deal. The potential good outcome resulting from this scenario
is that you can sue the poster who made the misleading and
controversial statement for as much as the deal is worth and possibly
more.
As for the threat - any threat - it is critical to file a written
complaint at the first incident so that a follow-up, either through
criminal investigation or legal proceeding, can be executed
successfully, assuming that there is a valid and compelling case to
proceed.

You bet it's warm. I tried them twice, once in high school and the
other I think it was in college. I think the imported ones from
Scotland are the best material and feel warmer than the imitation... My
nephew wanted to order one to be use for his drum major uniform but was
too expensive. I would definitely buy one the next time I visit the
area.

and 2 of my in-laws were able to stop cold turkey… But again, maybe
not, since lifestyle and various circumstances can affect the success

I have to retract what I said above. You know, I never thought of you

So far, I am in agreement with your medical arguments, especially when

Of course you can !! I'd prefer you wear a black suit and white
shirt for formal wear....but the tie can be bold and colorful. <g>
As a side note, my niece got married a couple of weeks back and I
went out shopping for a dress. $500 later, I came home with 3

Thank you. I have quit before... for up to 5 years...several times.
In fact, my friends never know if I'm smoking or if I have quit

Don't get a beer belly. And there is nothing wrong with a man who can
dance... no matter what his age. What I meant when I said about them
