Homeless Holiday Hype The New York Post December 7, 2002 By Heather Mac Donald It's the holiday season — the time when New York's press likes to scarf up the homelessness industry's lies even more eagerly than usual. Thanksgiving week saw a cornucopia of made-for-the-media whoppers. (more hype follows ...)... more »

Intensity and Duration in Endurance Training article
|
| |
Someone (Sam for you who remember him) posted this link in another forum. [link] Under Perspectives, look at Seiler and Tennesen article titled "Intervals, Thresholds, and Long Slow Distance: the Role of Intensity and Duration in Endurance Training" I've only lightly scanned it so far, but looks like a good article to... more »

34th annual Phoenix 10K and 5K
|
| |
No, I didn't run it; I was a "caller". For some reason, neither the organization that times the race nor the organization that runs it have clocks to put at the mile markers, so they have volunteers calling out the times. If I start out my running at near the pace I usually average my heart rate is very high for the first 1/2 mile then levels off to the regular average.... more »

Running History: Gordon Pirie
|
| |
Thought I'd share this with ya'll: [link] Gordon Pirie originally wrote it (it's a short read), and Dr. John Gilbody had it on gordonpirie.com. I came across it when I first started running and I found it to be inspirational as Pirie was clearly a runner who was very confident and one who beat Zatopek. The... more »

Have a Good Weekend
|
| |
I thought we had some pretty meaningful conversations this week for the most part, with less BS than normal. I think if we continue to discuss interesting things we can actually make this USENET group USEFUL, I know for myself I actually learned some things this week. I know USENET is getting old and slowly being replaced by online forums... more »
