Speaking of winter running I have my trusty gore tex running jacket and
pants from at least 12-15 year ago. They are fine although I almost
never use the pants, but I never see these advertised anymore. do they
still sell them? I just wondered because I think they are the best thing
I ever found in running for the winter and mine has lasted all these
years. I can go out at 0 degrees and a polypro shirt under the shell and
be fine. If it is really windy and bitter you need something for the
neck but otherwise gore tex still seems better.

They have a lot of new stuff but I never see the big advertisement like
I use to for gor tex. I would actually like to get another jacket but I
don't see them around.

Gore-tex has changed / improved a lot in the last 10+ years, but the
last versions I've seen, they are still somewhat heavy for running IMHO.
There's other fabrics out there that are lighter and more breathable, I
think - or just use pit zips. And definitely cheaper.

The 2 gore-tex shells I have generally get used for errands to store or
spectating or something along those lines. I'll usually use a lighter
shell but wind-resistant layer under it, so I can peel the shell if it
gets too warm. Then put it back on as sun goes down or wind picks up.

I was looking at some reviews this summer and saw some nice new products
coming on the market, but no real-life users yet - just testers.

I've gotten Goretex in the last few years at Lands' End (on sale) & LLBean
(outlet store). A couple of jackets, a couple of "long jackets" (for
walking, not running, & some below-the-waist coverage), and I think a pair
of over-pants as well (I know I saw some in the catalog. Also check Sierra
Trading post, REI & so on or just Google for the items.

I have a Gortex from 20 years ago and one from 6 and both had pants. I
bought the first and my bride the second fore Xmas. If I had known I
would have said only the top. I agree the pants are close to useless or
better yet, at least gross overkill for running where I live. I have
used the pants when I was working a race in the pouring rain and 40
degrees maybe 2-3 times in 20 years.

OTOH, the jacket gets used almost every winter run. Even my 20 yo jacket
which is not to good at repelling water it is still works great for
outer cover.

As for ads, I never look. They last so long that I will never have to
buy another. I'll likely add my Gortex to my cremation outfit.

I agree the pants would last forever for what you really need them for.
(they're also good if you go to golf tourney in the rain btw)
But when you are working a race you really do need some things!
That's when my Big Puffy Coat has gotten some workouts, also my Best Poncho
& Rainsuit.
Some things (not just "running clothes") you may not need very often but
when you do nothing else will quite do the job or leave you less than
miserable for hours.

I do have a Gore Tex outfit that my dad bought me way back when. It
does get used maybe once or twice a year when the temps are down in
the 5 to 10 degree range.

Otherwise way too warm ...
