Hi,

I am planning on running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington the weekend
of October 23. Any recommendations on hotels in the area that would be
convenient to the start would be appreciated.

Earlier today I called the Key Bridge Marriot and the special marathon rate
quoted was $95 / night plus 10% tax. Making matters worse is that to get the
rate you have to pay in full for all the nights a month before the arrival
date and the payment is non-refundable. You would think I was trying to buy an
airplane ticket!

I am hoping to do a little better in price (if possible) and certainly don't
want to pre-pay. Too much can go wrong in the final month of marathon training
to risk $300 plus for three nights.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions,

Ron Woodcock

Last year I stayed at the Alexandria Old Town Embassy Suites. It's a bit
more expensive from what I recall, but it's directly across from the Metro
station which saves a lot of hassle getting to the starting line. No buses
to wait for, no parking to arrange. First train leaves at about 8:00 AM,
and it got me to the starting area at about 8:35 giving me 25 minutes to
spare.

The Hotel also features the following:

Hot breakfast cooked to order, with cold buffet (fruit, cereal, juices)
Indoor Jacuzzi
Indoor pool

I believe late checkout (4 PM? 3 PM?) wasn't a problem.

Good luck - Richard
