I couldn't come up with my usual Easter poem this year, but I found
this cheery love poem by Edgar Allan Poe. So here it is:

Thou wast that all to me, love,
For which my soul did pine--
A green isle in the sea, love,
A fountain and a shrine,
All wreathed with fairy fruits and flowers,
And all the flowers were mine.

Ah, dream too bright to last!
Ah, starry Hope! that didst arise
But to be overcast!
A voice from out the Future cries,
'On! on!'--but o'er the Past
(Dim gulf!) my spirit hovering lies
Mute, motionless, aghast!

For alas! alas! with me.
The light of life is o'er.
'No more--no more--no more'
(Such language holds the solemn sea
To the sands upon the shore)
Shall bloom the thunder-blasted tree,
Or the stricken eagle soar!

Now all my days are trances,
And all my nightly dreams
Are where thy grey eye glances,
And where thy footstep gleams--
In what ethereal dances,
By what Italian streams.

Alas! for that accursed time
They bore thee o'er the billow,
From Love to titled age and crime,
And an unholy pillow--
From me, and from our misty clime,
Where weeps the silver willow!

- Edgar Allan Poe

What does a love poem by Edgar Allan Poe have to do with OS/2,

LOL, okay. Great response, Shaun. My poem is supposed to represent a
sort of modern aenigmata, a riddle poem, referencing St. Vincent,
Vincent Van Gogh, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and some other silly stuff.
The final version is titled Night Star, and posted to my blog. Thanks.

I was recently diagnosed with Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, a nasty
affliction that often forces me to extreme measures in search of
relief. For example, I wear ice hats. At times the pain is almost
indescribable. The crown of my head gets hot and sweats, like when you
eat spicy food only multiplied by a factor of ten. I was struck by
lightning while on maneuvers with the Corps in October of 1978, and
was ordained a Minister of the Gospel in December of the same year. I
can't say that the events are necessarily related, but God knows they
make for a funny story.

I am a Union man, you knOw,
though what I know may often shOw
a certain existential flOw
that resonates an afterglOw
to left and right, above, belOw,
in front, behind, to friend and fOe
as understanding where to gO
when word is heard - the sound of "Oh!".
Say, can you see an average jOe
who looks like me; from "Bal-ti-mO";
who'd write in verse, but isn't POe,
or any other poet? SO, ...

I say, and may repeat,
this laborious little feat,
considered here as consequence
of dropping dimes like fifties, since
that's simply all I can afford,
and like as not reuse, restored
beyond as now presented here
in present form, within this sphere
of ignominious influence
where matters are, presently, dense
as lead. What's said and done
reveals content that is pure fun-
damental form pertaining to
retaining formal function. You
can say it now of little feat -
a noun and adjective complete
as they describe one man and all
to those whose feats aren't seen as small
at all by those with whom compared.
This little feat that you've just shared
combines, compounds, raises the bet,
between you, reader, and poet,
like songs on little feat dot net,
where what you hear is what you get.

Exploring who I am, and not,
reveals in fact, that all I've got
is what you see, and may elicit
from me, "Labor omnia vincit".

Edgar Allan Poe didn't need OS/2. He wrote his poems longhand.

Facsimiles of the handwritten mnuscripts of some of his poems can be
found at online sites.

What does your classic unsubstantiated and erroneous claim have to
do with OS/2, Corey? Having trouble comprehending your own writing,
Corey? The comment I referenced was written by you about a
newsgroup's
content, with you claiming that the newsgroup is about whatever people
decide to discuss while within its confines, Corey. You're
"obviously"
trying to rationalize your own discussion of Hair in an OS/2 newsgroup
by claiming that an OS/2 newsgroup is about Hair whenever the people
within its confines choose to discuss Hair, despite the irrelevance
of Hair to OS/2. I stand by my conclusion, Corey.
