Did hell freeze over?

KBF was running the YELLOW side of WindJammer today....(actually both the
Red and Yellow sides were running). This hasn't happened in a year, has it?
I wish I'd gone in just to ride the Yellow side for a change......but with
my luck, I'd have gotten the RED side anyway.

Hmmmm..that's interesting. It wasn't running the day before. To my knowledge it
hasn't run since the last haunt but it's not like I'm there everyday so I could
definately be wrong! It certainly hasn't run on any of the days I've been there
this summer...including the 4th of July weekend.

And sometimes even the red side has been closed! (for wind..cuz it gets jammed
in the wind...almost like they knew that would happen when they named it!)

Yellow track did run for a few hours on one of my 3 visits in February of this
year. . .so it is still alive and kickin' at least. . .

Too bad they don't run both, for one, they give rather distinctive rides, and
plus, the damn thing can get such long lines they CAN'T say the public isn't
interested in it!

Oh well. . . I still love Knotts anyway :o)

I don't really know anything about Windjammer. Why wasn't the yellow side open,
and what exactly is Windjammer?

I like how when I was there, the yellow side was running, and they
decided to shut it down right before I stepped into the train.
Instead of letting the few of us left in line for the yellow side
ride, they shuffled us over to the red track. When, I asked why they
couldn't just finish up the line for the yellow side before they shut
it down, the op said she was off in five minutes and wanted to leave a
little early.

WindJammer is a coaster. There are 2 tracks that could, I guess, race each
other, but to my knowledge they never synchronized the stations. The metal
track is painted red on one side, and yellow on the other, and it has one
loop. It's kinda "mouseish" in a way, because they are very short trains,
and it's well known as being kind of rough. "Human Pinball" is how I've
heard it described. Perhaps someone can give you more details on who built
it and what the trains are, as I'm still too new at this to recognize the
builders yet. I don't really know why they rarely ever run the yellow side.
I assumed it might be that it is rougher than the red, but I don't really
know. Knotts usually will alternate on most rides when lines are short so
that both sides wear evenly, but WJ almost never runs the yellow side, even
when the line is long!

The last time I rode it, we sat in the train for quite a while waiting to be
dispatched, and I got bored and started smacking my head back and forth on
the overhead restraints. The ride-op laughed and said, "I see you've ridden
this before!" I told her I was just practicing.

Windjammer is a TOGO designed headache making racing steel coaster. It
hurts. People don't have very much fun on the ride. They come off
holding their heads usualy. The two sides of the racing coaster are
painted Yellow or Red. Since the handicap access is on the red side
only, when running just one side of the coaster, they run the red side,
since that is where the wheelchair lift is. The only time the ride is
remotely fun is when they run both sides of the ride. This only happens
on the absolutely most crowded days.

I'd rather ride Montezooma.

Actually, Janis, TOGO, roughly translated, means "pain."

Haha! I got ride the yellow side of Windjammer on the Fri before Christmas ( I
think) '98. Both sides were open most of the day, too. And I preferred yellow
to red, but I like them both. Yes, you read that right, I LIKE WINDJAMMER! I
think it was fun as hell! When I closed my eyes on the red side during the
triple bunny hills, I felt like I was bucking a bronco. It was great. And the
drop was good too. I just love that ride! LONG LIVE WINDJAMMER!

If both sides are powered up, they HAVE to race unless something goes very
wrong with the loading process, and only then will they dispatch only one side.
In the controll booth, the largest button is in fact labled 'RACE', which
dispatches both sides in sync.

Thats the smallest of the many factors. The day Cedar Fair took over, Yellow
was closed. Yellow is the rougher of the two tracks. Yellow actually had 25% of
the track replaced a while back in attempt to make it smoother, but it
evidently didn't work. The track can still be seen across the street from
Supreme Scream, as well as the rotting pieces of XK1.

Jack Falfass hates Wind Jammer yellow, and has to give personal permission for
it to be run. This very very rarely happens, typically during peak seasons and
special events.

It was confirmed to me at the GR opening that Knott's was seriosuly considering
removing Windjammer for future expansion, and is still a possibility.

My solution? New trains with lap bars, it's sooo simple. The ride COULD be alot
of fun, and really isn't as bad as people say, but we'll see what happens once
the Boardwalk becomes an even bigger draw once PP opens.

I'm surprised its not labeled "Cripple Riders" judging by the comments I've
read here.

Is it rough to your back then, as opposed to your head?

Yellow was running on New Years eve......five minute line, too.
Terrible coaster, but at least they were RACING.

No, but I have a very strong back, and am still a teen. Obviously, i've never

Wow....there IS someone that actually likes this ride. I knew there had to be
at least one out there! During the RRC meeting Friday (which was really fun
BTW!) I made the comment that I had never heard of anyone liking this ride. No
one else had either. But there's always exceptions to the rule I guess.
