Well.. *sigh*  I had some last minute emergencies and could not make
the Texas Celebration, but I wanted to say that I saw a wonderful
write up in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.  I also wanted to say that
although the event was moved to Sept. to avoid rain, that it rained
a large percentage of Saturday (dunno how the crowd actually made out
in it) and that since I live 2 minutes from 6 Flags, I thought fondly
of the group as I drove by.  What kills me is that both FRIDAY and SUNDAY
(especially SUNDAY) were dry as anything, but on Saturday it just rained
and rained and rained!  In fact, it was especially nice since 6 flags
also was having the HERITAGE Celebration (alot of old time crafts and
music presented along with crafts and knick knacks to buy).  I stopped
in Sunday early and spotted one chap with dark brown hair, some kind of
small travel bag, and a leather or denim type jacket all FULL of roller
coaster patches!  Too bad that Saturday could not have been the same
weather, it was great!

Just my impressions of what I saw, sorry I missed all of you who
made it here!!  Already put it into my schedule for next year!

There was an article in the Dallas Morning Snooze too.  I wanted to
type it up but it's still sitting on the coffee table.

The rain also ruined the Plano Balloon festivle (70+ hot air balloons
all sitting in their trailers because the wind was too high).  Oh
well, they'll have another next year.

Too bad you couldn't make it -- I had a great time, even got to meet
a couple of the folks who post here (Hi Joe! Hi Gary!) who probably
think I'm a drooling mouth breather, as I was running on fumes after
a week hopping from one airport to another on business.

There was some coverage in the Dallas Morning Disappointment as well,
including a sidebar column from some joker who blames the Giant for
an injury to some Texas Football Hero (tm).

The rain may have been a problem to the G.P., but it didn't rain (much)
during the ERTs.  If nothing else, it was a blast watching Lucy White, the
queen mother of all coaster freaks, having a good time.  I can only hope
I'm as spry when I'm 70+ :-)

Am I the only person who'd give up 30 minutes of ERT for a tour of the
coaster?  I'd *love* to walk around the Giant, take a picture or two
from inside the trackwork, see the operator's console, that sort of
thing.  Mind you, I don't want to give up more than 30 minutes ERT :-)

Hi!  We really need to get some r.r-c stickers for our name tags for
the next event.

If anyone could get the text of these articles posted I'd appreciate it.
An injury on the Giant? Nah.  Maybe a few large bruises but what do
you expect?  I probably rode it close to 20 times which was enough for me.
At least two people rode it over 100 times in a single day.
I could only take two or three consecutive rides before I had to get
out and take a break.

I get a kick out of watching her also.  I noticed that it started raining
quite hard just after I left Sat. night around midnight.  Did anyone
stay until 1:00?  Did they continue running the trains during the heavy
rain?

I would love to see something like this at coaster events.

Sorry for taking so long to answer, but it's taken me a while to find time
to catch up with this group after being out of work for a week!

Agreed!

My thanks to Ronald for posting the article!

I was there until 1:00, and they didn't close the Giant at all.  However,
there seemed to be only a few minutes of heavy rain, and that was just
about when ERT was ending anyway (it poured on the last train of the
evening, and that was it).  Prior to that, it was only raining lightly on
and off (of course, even light rain at 50+ mph is somewhat painful!).  The
Giant was running great, though!!!
