Went to Hersheypark with the family Thursday 5/17. Stayed over near
Reading, PA. Drove on 422 from Reading to Hershey, which actually had
a lot of traffic lights in that section of 422, if we do that trip
again, it's probably better to go down to the PA turnpike and come up
to Hershey, or north to 78 west and down 81. Took the obligatory ride
on the Tour Ride (no changes, but the candy given out was a pack of 3
mini almond things, not exactly our favorite, the first time we've
been disappointed in that in a while, but oh well its free, right?),
then it was off to the park. Park was decently busy, a lot of school
groups. Comet was down in the morning, and was possibly to be down all
day, with work being down on SkyRush. Luckily for me, it opened later
in the day, and I ended the day with a few rides on it. SkyRush looks
amazing! It was being cycled a few times that we could see but there
was other work also being done. The Comet's queue has been redone but
no other noticeable changes to the ride. The SkyRush does butt up
right against it though! sooperdooperlooper also was down all day (and
has been from what I hear).Did the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Challenge,
Skyview, Monorail and Train to start the day. All walk ons, and the
Monorail was running 1 train, while the Train was running 2. It was
then off to Fahrenehit, which was only running 2 and had about an hour
wait, including some technical difficulties. This ride is ok at best,
except for the last hill at the end, which is pretty good. Next was
Storm Runner, only running 1 side, waited about 40 minutes. Luckily
these were the two longest waits of the day. Sidewinder I waited 1
cycle. The restraints on this are quite nice, similar to the Flying
Dutchman. This is the first boomerang I have ridden with these
restraints, and while I enjoy Boomerangs more than most, these make
theme even more enjoyable. We then ate lunch at the burger place
across from Sidewinder in the food court (the name escapes me). It was
pretty good.
After that, we were off to Midway America, two train op on Wildcat, no
wait. Even with Millennium Flyers, this coaster seems too rough than
it should be. Then the Wild Mouse, still great as usual, with a
minimal wait. After taking a ride on the ferris wheel, it was off to
Lightning Racer. This is easily my 2nd favorite coaster at the park
after the classic Comet. Unfortunately, they were running only 1 train
on each side. Wait was about 30 minutes each time, so I rode each side
once. Unfortunately both times my side lost. With less than 2 hours
left (park closed at 6), took a ride on Trailblazer (no wait, 1 train
op), and then Flying Falcon. FF is still a neat ride to me, and pretty
much a must do at HP. I'm glad they keep it. We then took a picture
with a Hershey Kiss, went to the Kissing Tower (which is how I saw
that the Comet was running), and went on the Coal Cracker (no wait).
Coal Cracker looked very cleaned up and brand new, the water was
crystal clear. Ended the day with a few rides on the Comet
(unfortunately none on the dark, but it was 2 train operation) and a
last ride on the Tour Ride. A great day at Hersheypark, despite less
than full operation on a bunch of rides. I realize its a weekday in
early May and was expecting some less than ideal operations, but some
of the operations was painfully slow. We went to Six Flags Great
Adventure the following day and was expecting more of the same or
worse, and was pleasantly surprised that almost all of Six Flags
attractions were at full capacity, and with very efficient staff
working. HP's operations was well below SF's during these 2 days.
