Rumors and speculation. Inside sources may have leaked El Toro before a
final name was decided on.

I guess they decided they didn't want to deal with the question of the
right way to spell it... 8-)

Stoning? That's either too violent, too sexual, or too drug related.
Can't have that! And Stoning Snake used together...that's cruelty to
animals! Chick is a anti-feminist term, so scratch that.
We are left with "Hair". So, Hair will be the name. After all, people
were discussing the problem that long Hair might get stuck in the
track. So, all that ripped off hair just contributes to the theming!
Maybe Pantene will sponser it and the cars will look like shampoo
bottles!
This is the kind of creative genius Six Flags needs! Screw Batman, we
want Hair!

Yeah, then SFGAd would have something else to add to its collection of
limitations for riding coasters. First B:TR with the specific shoes, then The
Chiller with the no earring policy, now HAIR with the no toupee or hair longer
than shoulderlength policy because it'll jam the track. "We're sorry Hair will
be closed today to remove hairballs from the track." Hey since this is a Six
Flags park and they like the whole DC Comics theme, why not name it Catwoman
since cats get hairballs too and that Medusa is not supposed to bereally that
themed from what I hear. When you get off the ride they give you a free sample
of conditioner.

Forgive me... please? :-)

"Gimme a ride on Hair! (Hair!)

Curlin', twirlin', slith'rin' on it's odd rails!

Drop me from up there! (Hair!)
Flip me in a weird "chair"!

Sorry. It just popped out unexpectedly. Anyway, I'm sure that since
B&M is building this one it will be ready for us next spring, or
whenever it is scheduled to open. What*EVER* SFGAd ends up naming it
-- I like Medusa, BTW! (Then again, I liked Jezebel, too, and look
what happened! :-) )

Thank you, Derek.

I *knew* that. Honest. It's just that I have over 40 years of Music
in My Lifetime to try to keep track of, not to mention the stuff I
know from either before I was born or before I was an age where I
could identify it. I arrived on this planet at the beginning of the
rock 'n roll era, so it gets a little tougher every year.

Brian Smith (myt...@bellatlantic.net) was the third or fourth person
who wrote in response to the question about "Istanbul":

: THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!

: but they really aren't, but that is besides the point....

Okay, now for the follow-up question...
That is, in fact, quite an old song. I do not have the TMBG album in
question so I do not know whether this question is answered there or not.
But here goes, in case somebody knows...

o Who wrote "Istanbul"?
o Who performed it *before* TMBG?

This is not a trivia quiz, I really do not know the answer...!

"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" was originally performed by The Four
Lads in the early third of the 1950's. They made it to #10 in the charts
with the song.

History has lost all record of the Four Lads' enthusiasm (or lack
thereof) for roller coasters, so I guess we'll never know. But if anyone
has a neighbor named Frank Busseri, Bernard Toorish, James Arnold, or
Connie Coderini, stop by their place tomorrow and ask! (Tell them
Katarina Valente sent you.)

Is it possible that the decision to name the coaster Raging Bull might
have something to do with Chicago's championship-winning NBA team?

Maybe they'll get MJ or Scottie to cut the ribbon for the grand opening and
take the first ride? It's not like they'll be too busy if the lockout
continues...

On the TMBG CD, they have it listed as follows:

"[...] _Istanbul (Not Constantinople)_ written by J. Kennedy and
N. Simon, published by Chappell & Co. ASCAP."

>o Who performed it *before* TMBG?

Don't have the answer to this... sorry!
