In general, my recommendation is to post the pictures to a website, then
link to that site in a message to RRC. That way anyone who wants to see
them still can, but those who don't want to see them won't get them, and it
won't mess up RRC's bandwidth.
Rec.roller-coasters is not a binaries newsgroup. It is for text only.
Posting binaries is not allowed here for various reasons:
-- many news servers delete messages from binaries from non-binaries
newsgroups. Then people will be discussing your pictures and other files,
but many will not be able to see them.
-- some news servers and internet providers do not carry binaries
newsgroups. If too many binaries get posted here, they could stop carrying
this newsgroup, which would restrict access to it by their users.
-- many people (myself included) have their newsreaders set to retrieve all
messages from this newsgroup. If binaries get posted here, that could
significantly increase the amount of time and bandwidth needed to retrieve
all messages. In many parts of the world, users pay for their bandwidth.
This could mean that those users are paying to see your pictures and
binaries, even if they don't want to.
-- messages scroll off of news servers based on how much hard drive space
they take up. If too many binaries get posted here, the messages could
start scrolling off more quickly for many users, meaning they can't see
many messages.

I like Yahoo Photos. Its' free to sign up for a Yahoo photos page,
and you can upload your photos to phot albums, then give out the URL
to your photo page. Just bear in mind that you have to follow a link
inside each photo album to "share" that particular album (make it
available for others to view).

I have photo albums on that page form a trip to Kennywood, a family
reunion, and the Mobile Skatepark Series event that was held in
Niagara Falls this past summer.
What's nice about Yahoo Photos is that you can choose different ways
to share a phot album. You can share it with just specific people, or
with anyone who goes to your site, or with no one. People who go to
your site will see only those photo albums you allow them to see.
