Ray Dennis Steckler's "The Incredible Strange Creatures ... blah blah
blah" is on Crackle.com and it has great footage of the Long Beach
Pike ca. 1964. In particular there are several minutes of day footage
around the 12 minute mark and some night footage at 17 minutes. The
Cyclone Racer is in both, including on-ride.

Terrible movie, though. I can usually get some enjoyment from grade-
Z horror but could only watch half of it. It's too bad he didn't run
shorter on running time since he once included ten minutes of extra
rodeo footage in another movie to pad its running time. Imagine if
he'd needed padding here and had included a comprehensive walk-through
of the place.

Heh...firmly entrenched in IMDB's bottom 100.

The MST3K version makes it almost watchable.

Almost. It's pretty awful, and I like the genre.

I didn't care to watch the movie but liked viewing the CR clips
instead. Great off and on ride footage for that time. I always
wondered what the coaster was like. This offered a much better
representation than an old photo or from some clip from an early
1960's TV show. It looked like it had tons of air as well as floating
time. It appears that the camera guy(s) weren't able to get a complete
shot onboard the coaster due to it's wildness and technology back
then. I liked seeing the other rides all lit up at night and the
noises coming from the carnival. I didn't know the old Octopus made a
noise back then. But, now that I think of it, being a little nipper in
the late '60's, I do recall certain noises rides such the Octopus,
Paratrooper, and Calypso would make.

It's because the film crew were morons, not because of any wildness or
technology. They tried to hand hold a 35mm motion picture camera instead of
locking it down in the front seat the way other filmmakers did (and still
do). If you've ever seen the TV film crew footage of the Chicago Bobs in
the "Gone But Not Forgotten" video, you'll know it's possible to get footage
of a "wild" coaster. Now that I think about it, there's Cyclone Racer
footage in other Hollywood films as well.

That's at least consistent with the quality of the rest of the movie.
