Eton E1 Radio + Select-A-Tenna + Lazy Susan

Have you tried using the Select-A-Tenna with a Lazy Susan
using a Coupling Coil with the Collapsed Whip Antenna ?
Use an Speaker Wire Audio Cable with an 1/8" Mono-Plug
at one end to Plug into the Select-A-Tenna Model 541-M
which has the 1/8" Jack built into it.
Collapse the Whip Antenna on the E1 Radio until there is
only about an Inch or Two "Stub" Sticking out of the Case.
Wrap a thin piece of Cardboard around it and Tape the
Cardboard to from a Coil Form. Wrap Ten to Twenty Truns
of Insulated Hook-Up Wire on the Coil Form. You now have
a Coupling Coil for the Whip Antenna.
Connect the ends of Wires from the Coupling Coil to the
ends of the Wires coming from the Speaker Wire Audio Cable
with the 1/8" Mono-Plug.
Place the Coupling Coil over the Whip Antenna Stub.
Plug the 1/8" Mono-Plug into the Select-A-Tenna.
Turn the E1 Radio "ON" and then Tune the Select-A-Tenna
and Rotate the Lazy Susan for the best AM/MW Radio Signal.
This set-up may allow the Peaking and Nulling of AM/MW
Radios Stations that using the Whip Antenna alone will
not allow.
hope this helps - iane ~ RHF

$500 for a top-of-the-line receiver, without DRM ! The SW bands, in a
few years,
will be pretty much useless, can't AM/DX without an external antenna,
can't
receive satellite radio without an external antenna - this receiver
will be useless,
in a few years !
GSW - Evidently that is a few years more then you have
as reflected by the content of your postings here. ~ RHF

So, did you purchase an Eton E1 ? All you had to do, was to purchase
a Sony 7600GR, for $150, and a satellite radio for $100 - you could
have saved about $450,
including, not having to buy two external antennas !
Eton/Grundig/Tecsun sure is taking suckers !
Plus 'you' just gave me two easy Pitches to Knock-Out-of-the-Park :
Home Run # 1 - Yes - I Own a Sony ICF-SW7600GR !
And as Good as the Sony ICF-SW7600GR Radio
is for $150 the Eton E1 XM Radio is a Better Radio
and IMHO Worth-the-Price ! :o)
Home Run # 2 - Yes - I Own a Eton E1 XM Radio !
GSW - People will Listen to the Voice of Experience -but-
The Hollow Words of a Constant Detractor Go Un-Heard
as He is Recognized by His Rhetoric and Lack of Wisdom.

RHF,
I don't need to own a radio, to tell it's not worth the money. If
you already had the
Sony, what was the point of pissing all that money on the Eton E1, with
all its
shortcomings ? Doesn't even have DRM ! Home Run ! I can read
reviews,
dumbass ! You could have saved many hundreds of dollars and bought a
$100
satellite radio, instead. Oh, but I guess you have to have the
latest-and-greatest !
So, the E1 is too expensive to have a backup - so what are you going to
do,
if you drop it, or get a blemish on it ? The Grungid/Eton/Tecsun
receivers are
over-hyped, over-priced receivers - look at the Eton E10 -
single-conversion
without SSB, for $120 ! The E5 is $150, without synchronous detection
-
the 7600GR, $150 with it ! Home Run # 2 ! I wouldn't be so stupid to
purchase/piss away money on the E1...
Oh RHF,
Have we forgotten about the E1's batteries blowing up, when used
with the AC adaptor ?
Agreed, RHF, the E1 is an outstanding portable receiver: indeed, a
better performer than such respected receivers as the Sony ICF-2010 and
ICF-SW77. Performance-wise, the E1 is more in the league of a Drake
SW8 or a (properly functioning) Satellit 800.

Funny how the E1 and E5 are now being referred to as
"Eton/Grundig/Tecsun" by this guy. As noted long back in this group,
Eton is nothing more than a marketing/distribution company for radios
made by various manufacturers. The E5 is no Tecsun set, nor has it in
any way ever been associated with the Grundig name. Rather, it's the
Degen DE1106, which Eton bought the rights to. The E1, similarly, has
no connection to Tecsun. The E1 is manufactured by BEL and, according
to Monitoring Times, Drake had a hand in its design (no doubt in the
flawless sync detector that has been incorporated into the E1). The
only connection the E1 has to Grundig is that its packaged in the shell
of the never-to-see-the-light-of-day Satellit 900.
In any case, if that smithwhisper/sidwellfriends guy can receive all he
wants to hear on the 'SW7600GR, then good for him. If you don't have
the need to upgrade, then why bother. And since he seems to be into
DRM, then he can get that Kchibo radio.
Great resource, your Eton E1 Yahoo group, RHF....it's very much
appreciated.

I had a chance to use a E1 for several hours of evening listening and found
it to be a superb radio. I was thinking about getting one.

Same here. For me, the only shortcoming it has is a lack of a computer
interface port. With all the memories it has, that shouldn't be too much
of a problem. The build quality compared to the communist Chinese
Grundigs is excellent. I think I'll start saving now.
