Most likely they have recently sold out and the web page hasn't been updated
over the holiday weekend.

You sold out years ago, did you not, Fat Boy? Right about the time when you got
busted for using marijuana in that motel room with one of your male students?

Didn't you try to turn others in to save your fat ass?

Just a bit of false advertising there though as there are no

I hope it isn't a clerical error. I ordered one. The shipping status
claims the order has advanced from "processing" to "being prepared for
shipping..."

I wonder where they came from originally and what the 'wholesale' price of
the 800 actually is.

It's regular retail price new is $499. You can find it retail for
anything from $450-499, although Amazon.com occasionally has it for $399.
You can get it on eBay of course for less.

Hoow dare you insinuate those of us who got ot order one will put them on
eBay within two weeks??

It will take us at least 8 weeks to fully test the Sat 800 and get bored
(plus, the thing is huge, and it was hit with an ugly stick in the Grundig
design shop, so who can really stick withthese babies foreever?). So look
for a supply blip in a couple of months.

Several years ago a group of audiophile geeks including me would often pool
together to buy an expensive piece of gear en masse (groups of 24 for
example). We were able to get the stuff at cost that way - I remember
buying a pair of (somewhat) exotic Spica TC60 speakers that way for $450
bucks.

Perhaps we should consider that sometime - a group buy of, say, ICOM R75s,
or Sat 800s. It takes nerves of steel and trust, because we have to pool
the money together under one person. These days an escrow service could
address that. Not what size batch we would need to buy to equal the
discount the big guys get.

DX ACE,

One 'story' that I heard (read) was that these were an ITEM that
was not selling and this sale was a "Dead Stock Clearance" by
the Discovery Channel. {This sounds possible.}

Another 'story' out there is that Grundig North American (Eton Corp.)
is Dumbing the Grundig Satellit 800 M; "Because" they are getting
ready to release a newer radio. {This is less likely.}

NOTE: The Eton "Elite" E1 XM Radio has been 'rescheduled' for
release in the 'last quarter' (OCT-NOV-DEC) of 2004. Then a
replacement (upgrade) for the current Grundig Satellit 800 M
would most likely scheduled for 2006.

FWIW: The Grundig Satellit 800 M 'replacement' would carry
the Eton "Elite" brand name and should feature Digital Radio
Mondiale (DRM) Broadcast Technology.
