First, we may never know the true story, but as it has been presented so
far, here are a couple of points for your consideration...
The two main complaints against Olbermann were political donations he
made and that he hosted the election returns show.
1) Olbermann is an *employee*, not the boss. His BOSS assigned Olbermann
to do the show. So if you are going to blame anybody, blame the boss. Duh!
2) The political donations Olbermann made were *private*. Let me say
that again: P-R-I-V-A-T-E. On the other hand, Williams blabbed out his
fear of Muslims in public, in front of a million viewers. It seems like
a poor analogy to compare a private issue against something done in
front of a million people.
P.S. Olbermann donated a paltry and LEGAL 2400 bucks. If you wish to
complain about something, why not try railing against the *FOREIGN*
companies that donated MILLIONS (through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce)
to sway the *AMERICAN* election.

contributions and their donors was also made during the campaign.
And yet the action against Olberman was made three days AFTER the
election.

Whether or not it's sensitive to say such a thing is one matter.
'Appropriate' however, is another. 'Appropriate' is a word that has
no place adjacent to the word 'speech.' That said, it has been the
thrust of either side in political matters to silence the voice of
the other side since the creation of language. That's not likely to
change. Nor is the creative nature of the convoluted excuses used to
attempt it in 'just this one case.'
The fact is that both Olberman and, to a more grey extent,
Williams, violated the terms of their personal service contracts.
In that context...the matter is settled.
But in the case of Olberman, his 'indefinite' suspension
apparently ends today. He'll be back tomorrow.
