The Zen V and V Plus (2G and 4G respectively) are nice units but a tad
delicate.
My display died, but the unit still works strong. I know of 10 people
who have them
and only one had his die and that was after a nice wash, rinse and
drier cycle.
The price is comparable but the iRiver X20 may have the advantage in
the SDRAM slot
Have you hear any reviews about how stout the display on the X20 is?

Hi Terry,
I've not heard any feedback about the X20's display, but my impression is
that is is pretty sturdy. The case doesn't flex much...it feels stout to me,
despite the very light weight. I think it would be a good idea to keep the
screen covered as much as possible though, such as with the modded Verizon
Chocolate cell phone case I describe in the blog article.
One advantage I see to the X20 over the Zen V series is the 64 kbps
recording format, for smaller file sizes. The lowest rate that the Zen Vs
will record is 128 kbps.

I've built antenna using tent poles as well. I think I got them at
Big 5. However, for my larger loop, I used white rods from Tap
Plastics:

So that is around 12 ft on the diagonal, or about 37ft. The fiberglass
rods are a bit stiffer than the tent poles.
Just an FYI, if you are recording in compressed modes, the stereo
separation is often reduced. This is not the end of the world for
music, but if you are trying to record two signals without leakage
(such as from two scanners), it is the end of the world. It has been
my experience that OGG format does not have this issue. And of course,
it should not be an issue if you record in PCM
