AM has been on the downfall for decades now. FM and HD Radio has taken it's
toll on the AM stations for quite a while. Although I do listen
occassionally to AM, I'm not interested in sports, and quite honestly, this
is about all AM has to offer anymore. AM used to be my only source of
radio, but it has dried up as far as interesting music from the old days
have passed onto FM now. I don't think it has a whole lot to do with the
recession though. The revenue has dried up becasue there isn't the audience
there used to be so the ratings have dropped - and as a result, advertising
dollars are going to other media sources where people listen more.

I think has more to do with the Pappas family curse. Does this mean KXNT
can go 50 KW at night?

You may be interested to know that I was the staff planner here at
Alameda County for KTRB, and I have the very first QSL from that
station (my little perk). That was a fun permitting project (for a
change). I had not heard this news - too bad.

Folks may (or may not ;-) be interested to know that I was the Alameda
County staff planner for the KTRB radio station, and have the very
first KTRB QSL (my little perk). It was a fun planning permitting job
(for a change). Sad to hear this.

I think it was more its' programming, more than anything else ... more
run of the mill government propaganda is just not needed anymore.
Political correctness is about ready to trash a lot of this stuff ...

Tune in KFIV 1360 Modesto, Dave Diamond ... he has cops on butt licking
their little wet bottoms and keeps beating the drum that they are our
great protectors ... I liked it the way it was way back in the 1960's,
bad citizens feared the good ones and it kept everyone in check ...

Try to tell that station they are writing their own death warrant ... I
bet you can't.

Let's connect some dots here. I believe KMPH did not go off the air
for lack of revenue - rather, KMPH was taken off the air in order to
repurpose its operating expenses to KTRB and keep that moneypit on the
air. Realistically, how expensive was KMPH anyway? A small staff, a
5kW xmtr, a single xmtr site with PG&E power - that cannot be much of
a drain on the Pappas company. However, consider KTRB - a 50kW
station with two xmtr sites, expensive nighttime operation where
propane has be trucked to xmtr site weekly. KTRB is the station
that's killing Pappas financially, not KMPH. KTRB is kept on the air
in hopes that a greater fool will come along and relieve the Pappas'
of the burden of operating that turkey. Good luck.

I don't have any special inside info. What I've given you is plain
common sense and analysis. Free.

Exactly. We are the new rome and our sports are used to appease/control
the masses just like the gladiators and exotic animal fights, etc. They
didn't even need any original thought, just copy what worked in
rome--tamed down a bit for "more-civilized man."
