Last week, Senator Bill Nelson, Democrat of Florida, tried to bring a
small group of journalists with him on a trip he was taking through
the gulf on a Coast Guard vessel. But at about 10 p.m. on the evening
before the trip, someone from the Department of Homeland Security’s
legislative affairs office called the senator’s office to tell them
that no journalists would be allowed.

“No further elaboration” was given...

“We were questioned extensively. Who was on the aircraft? Who did they
work for? The minute we mentioned media, the answer was: ‘Not
allowed.’”

From the start, the administration has seemed intent on allowing BP to
operate in near-total secrecy.

Along the Gulf Coast, crews work around the clock to clean up what
seems like a never-ending mess. But sometimes journalists find it
difficult to get to the scene to do their jobs. Many reporters have
been denied access to public areas by BP contractors and local law
enforcement, prompting allegations that the oil giant is trying to
control the story. BP denies it.

And at a recent news conference, national incident commander Thad
Allen insisted that he's told BP to give journalists access to safe
and secure areas. In a piece for Mother Jones, reporter Mac McClelland
wrote that she was stymied at every turn by Jefferson Parish sheriff's
deputies brought it to supplement the local police. Deputies, she
reports, that were following the orders of BP.

And what would "Drill Here Drill Now Drill Baby Drill Keep on Drillin"
McCain/Palin have done?

Walter Harding

unread,
Jun 15, 2010, 6:53:03 PM6/15/10
to

First would be to allow drilling in shallow water and on land, where
it's far safer. We didn't see drilling accidents like this happen is
Alaska when Governor Palin was in charge.

Next, President Palin wouldn't have filled the Department of Interior
with incompetent, corrupt fools like Obama did. McCain/Palin would
have made damned certain that the MMS was staffed with people who knew
what the Hell they were doing, instead of the
politically connected, corrupt seat warmers we are currently saddled
with. McCain/Palin's people would have grilled BP endlessly, demanding
detailed instructions on the plans. McCain/Palin's people would know
the actual risks, and would never have used the Obama rubber stamp.
McCain/Palin's people would have also demanded to see a detailed
account of their plans if the oil leaked.

You know, their jobs.

The same job that was done under President Bush.

The same job that was done under President Clinton.

The same job that was done under President Bush.

The same job that was done under President Reagan.

The same job that was done under President Carter.

The same job that was done under President Ford.

The same job that was done under President Nixon.

We have to go all the way back to the Johnson administration to find a
disastrous drilling leak. Nothing a fraction as bad as this, of
course.

WHAT OBAMA DID: Nominate BP for a federal safety award.

2. Under McCain/Palin, Homeland Security would have been properly
equited to handle the clean up, and to take over the oil rig if
neccessary.
There would have been none of this "we don't have the tools." McCain/
Palin understands priorities.

WHAT DID OBAMA THINK WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO SPEND MONEY ON THAT TO STOP
AND CLEAN UP THE DRILLING ACCIDENT:

$50,000,000,000.00 of taxpayers money to pay off the Unions.

3. On the day the oil rig sprung, McCain would have been on the air
within minutes, and on AF1 within the hour to New Orleans where he
would have and a long, very loud one way discussion with BP
executives. If the execs were lucky. If not, they would have gotten
Mama Grizzly Palin.

WHAT OBAMA DID: Cracked wise at a Barbara Boxer fund raiser.

4. If McCain/Palin's Secretary of the Interior was stupid enough to
go on vacation on the same day as Obama's SOI was, he or she would
have been greeted at the Grand Cayon with a dozen members of the Navy
Seals who would have "escorted" him back to his job.

WHAT OBAMA'S SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR DID: Sent back a 3D post card
to the President of the Grand Canyon, with the inscription; "Having a
wonderful time - glad your not here! XXXOOO Kenny"

5. Climbed onto the rig about six hours before it was, strictly
speaking, safe to do so. McCain then would have long discussion with
the head of the rig. Followed by a quick meeting with each worked,
where they would be asked if they were up to the job, and what they
needed to get the job done.

WHAT OBAMA DID: Quietly canceled the BP safety luncheon. Then golf.

6. McCain would have then returned to the oval office, where he would
have had the weak rig workers replaced, and given BP what it needed to
get the job done. Or else.

WHAT OBAMA DID: Sang "Hey Jude" with Paul McCartney,

7. McCain/Palin then would have gone on the air, to talk directly the
the American people. he would have called for a massive volunteer
effort
to help save our coasts. He would have gotten everything that floats
to use straw to clear as much oil as possible. There would be church
groups that would have filled bags with rocks and sacks, and private
citizens with trucks would have delivered them where needed. He would
have said something like "I'm not asking your to be a POW for your
country. I'm not asking you to die. I'm not even asking you bleed.
I'm asking you to sweat al little. To take an early vacation and work
for a week or so to help save America.

WHAT OBAMA DID - refuse help from England because they didn't fill out
the paperwork properly.

WHAT ELSE OBAMA DID - Refused help from 13 other countries who offered
to help.

Under McCain/Palin, the barriers would have been long completed, and
would be currently be strengthened to make them hurricane resistant.
Dissolvents would have been dropped by federal 130s, and much of the
oil would have been removed from the water.

McCain would have appealed to what's best in America. The nation
would have risen to the occasion.

WHAT OBAMA DID: Appeal to what's worst in America - finger poiting
and calls for borderline fascist demands. "We'll keep our boots on
BP's throat."

McCain would have lead.

This is all a CROCK of supposition and demagoguery. In order to do
what you suggest, McCain would had to have had different info that
Obama had - since BP effectively lied (and continues to lie) to
everyone about the severity of the leak and accident. Palin never had
a problem in Alaska because she QUIT after two grueling years as
Governor Barbie. She and that prick Young from Alaska don't even
believe that a problem exists, or else they don't care. Who appointed
the incompetent oil-industry people in charge at the DoI? Here's a
hint - it wasn't Obama and it wasn't Clinton.

Having said that, Obama has blown it with this effort. He should have
fired Bush's appointees instantly; he should have gotten a real
national interest person instead of that shill Sleazar, and he should
REALLY have his boot on BPs worthless fucking throat until they choke
to death. He should start demanding a REAL 21st century energy policy
instead of the rickety obsolete 19th century shit we're stuck with,
and he should start dictating the terms by which we move forward
instead of watching the world pass us by.

Suppostion? Well, you asked what I thought McCain/Palin would do in
this situation. I made educated guesses based their past behavior.
Besides, yelling "this would never have happened if my guy had won" is
the consolation prize to the loser.

>...and demagoguery.

Everything I wrote about Obama actually happened. If it's demagoguery
to list what Obama's actions.... perhaps you guys elected a
demagogue.

Which is why it's essential to staff the MMS and the Department of the
Interior liberally with competent, intelligent people who've worked in
the oil field instead of socialist pol-sci political appointees, like
Obama did.

> a problem in Alaska because she QUIT after two grueling years as
> Governor Barbie.

She walked away because little fascists like yourself bombarded her
with dozens of nuisance lawsuits which made it impossible for her to
govern. (These stunts cost her a half million dollars and she spend
three out of every four weeks in court.) Only one lawsuit even went
to trial, a case Palin won handily. Sarah's children were attacked
and ridiculed on national television, and Democratic state
representative Mike Kernell of Memphis sent his weasle son David
Kernell to break into Gov. Palin's e-mail account.

So, instead of letting herself be a target, she changed the rules.
Good for her. She's now a very powerful Republican, and will be
essential in winning back the House. And Sarah will remind the
Republicans of her first hand experience in just how dirty you
cocksuckers fight. There's a whole new game coming up, and you're not
going to like how the New GOP plays the game.

> She and that prick Young from Alaska don't even

There wasn't a problem when Bush or Palin were in charge.

President Obama nominated Ken Salazar.

Here's a
> hint - it wasn't Obama and it wasn't Clinton.

Yes it was. Obama nominated ken Salazar. Mr. Salazar never worked in
the Bush White House. Dirk Kempthorne and Gail Ann Norton were
Secretaries of the Interior under President Bush.

> Having said that, Obama has blown it with this effort.  He should have

He did. Obama carried over very few Bush appointees.

Agreed....but Obama nominated the guy. Remember? Ken replaced Dirk
Kempthorne?

> and he should

What he should have done was surround himself with competent workers.
What he should be doing now is cleaning up the Gulf. What he IS doing
now is looking around desperately to find someone to blame.

Hey, here's a fun fact - did you know that, according to the very
liberal PPP polling company, the people of Louisiana think that
Obama's handled the Gulf spill worse than Bush handled Katrina?

> He should start demanding a REAL 21st century energy policy
> instead of the rickety obsolete 19th century shit we're stuck with,>

Except that rickety, obsolete 19th centure shit we're stuck with has
the minor advantage of actually existing.

A year and a half ago, obama funded 1.2 trillion (including interest)
to a stimulus bill that was supposed to unleash a brave new world of
magic windmills.

Well, WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY?

Bullshit. She talked herself into ridicule, and quit because she saw
millions to be made where politics of AK only earned her $100ks. IF
she was really worried about what people said about her, she would not
be where she is now.

powerless in favor of the plutocrats. I hate them already. They have
no shame, no conscience.

According to Young, there isn't one now...as of June 4...

"This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and
again."

We see where the brains in the Republican party aren't!

Check your history and news sources. BP's safety record - the legally
required precautions they were supposed to take to protect against
blowouts and spills - in Alaska is no better than the Gulf, and there
are public records and employee accounts to prove it. The accident
that happened in Louisiana was the result of years if not decades of
lack of oversight and foxes guarding the hen house. Bush's crystal-
meth sniffing sex-crazed MMS people saw to that.

> >  Who appointed
> > the incompetent oil-industry people in charge at the DoI?  >

True, and I admit this - and I hated him from the start - BUT everyone
below him in MMS was a Bush appointee - previously overseen by Bush's
SOI. Neither Salazar nor Bush's previous DOIs had direct day-to-day
oversight of the oil industry -
MMS did, that's the where the continuity of habit lies, and that's
where the direct fault lies.

Not the head of Department of the Interior, Sen Salar, as you
previously implied. Elizabeth Birnbaum was appointed by Clinton, and
held over by Bush, where she was promoted to Vice President for
Government Affairs and General Counsel for American Rivers.

Who, exactly, are you talking about?

Who does it hurt when energy prices double? Not Harrison Ford. Not
Obama. The powerless who you exploit. Where is your concern for the
Louisiana fishermen who've lost their livelihoods because Obama didn't
want to do anything about the Gulf leak? The unemployed Obama's
simply ignored?

Sarah Palin. Not wealthy. Not powerful. Rose up through the ranks

Is there a bigger bully than the neocons of the last 10 years? You
guys are tantamount to Boss Tweed's gang. Nothing anywhere compares
to Limbaugh.

I exploit the powerless? Me? You've got to be kidding. My
sympathies lie entirely with the Gulf Fishermen, and you know it damn
well. Show me an oil-rich Republican who feels that way.

I have already said that Obama screwed up here.

Did Obama start out rich? Check your facts.

How about the Republicans who have haunted the halls of Congress for
years?

How about their cronies in every big dirty industry on the planet,
billionaires who fund their campaigns and keep them in luxury? The
REAL plutocrats? The ones who the Republicans constantly defend?

And *ahem* - what exactly has Palin won from the big boys just yet?

Wrong. Check your facts. The same people who are now in trouble have
been in MMS for a decade. The same damned people. The ones who had
sex parties and sniffed dope off the microwave.

BpnJ - D'Oh !

I have been lambasting BP efforts to Stop this
Oil Leak and Cleaning-Up the Oil Spill in the
Gulf of Mexico as to slow and inadequate.

I really think that the US Federal Government
should be IN-CHARGE by all Prez Obama and
his Regime seam to be doing is saying that 'they'
are in-charge -but- just going alone with BP's
inadequate program and plans.

Not if you support Obama, you don't.

"Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf
of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.

It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and
it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive
marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are
coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the
administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser,
consul general for the Netherlands in Houston."

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/steffy/7043272.html

Why did Barrack Petrolatum turn down the generous offer? Because Oil
Slick Barry didn't feel like waving the Jones Act, which requires all
goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships. The four ships
can process 20,000,000 gallons of sludgy water a day - more than the
amount that's being pumped out by the leak.

The British made a similar offer, but were refused because (wait for
it).....THEY DIDN'T FILL OUT THE PAPER WORK CORRECTLY!!!!

You can support the fisherman, or you can support Obama. You can't
support both.

>.... and you know it damn

> well.  Show me an oil-rich Republican who feels that way.

Govenor Bobby Jindal.

> I have already said that Obama screwed up here.

One might call Oil Slick Barry's actions directly after the explosion
a "screw up" if they were feeling generous. His actions (and non-
actions) during the following seven weeks is nothing short of criminal
incompetence. And that's the KINDEST phrase for Obama's actions.

Members of Obama's Department of the Interior are going to be spending
a LOT of times in courtrooms in the following years.

You can support Obama, or the fishermen. You can't support both.

your Working Class Heroes. And you're stupid enough to believe they
have your best interest at heart when they pass laws that will jack up
your taxes and utilities bills.

Considering how much bile and hatred the Left poured on Sarah and her
faimily, you betcha it's a fair comparison.

> Did Obama start out rich?  Check your facts.

He was raised by his grandmother, who was a bank vice president.
Yeah, we all know about the hard scrabble life of the bank vice
presidents. He became a best seller.

Now, if you want to talk about a difficult life, how about President
Goofball's half brother, George Obama? Until a few years ago, this
guy lived in an African slum on (literally) three cents a day. A
twenty dollar bill would have changed Obama's life. When Oil Slick
Barry found out about his sibling's condition, he ran over, exploited
his half brother for a photo op, then dumped him back in the slum. No
twenty dollar bill was forthcoming.

But don't worry about George, he's during terrific these days....
because the conservative magazine National Review raised $10,000.00 to
send him to mechanics school.

You mean like George Soros? Kendrick Meek? Pinch Sulzberger? The
vast majority of the super rich in this generation are socialists -
and for very selfish reason. Complex tax laws and endless business
regulations are nothing more than a minor annoyance for the plutocrats
- they simply hire drones to fill in the paperwork. However, those
same laws tend to destroy small start up businesses - the very people
old money fears.

Twenty five years ago, IBM charged the equivalent of a quarter of a
million dollars for a 15 Meg Mainframe. Along comes Apple, and now
anyone can afford an IPAD. How much would it have been worth to IBM
to keep Steve Jobs out of the number crunching biz? And why do you
think that Jobs, after making his little all, pulled the ladder up
behind him?

> And *ahem* - what exactly has Palin won from the big boys just yet?

OK, this is going to be tough for you to remember. A week ago, (yes,
a whoooooooooole week ago) there was an election... and well over 80%
of the people Gov. Palin nominated were elected.

This is called Being A Kingmaker. She has also raised tons of money
for conservative causes, which makes her even more powerful.

So, *ahem* yourself.

> She's lucky she's cute - otherwise you leering buttheads wouldn't give

Tragically for you, she's also scary smart, and can express complex
complex political ideas more clearly than any politician since FDR.

Meanwhile, your side is populated with an army of self important
narcissists. Does anyone have a kind word for Nancy Pelosi these
days?

Yup, twenty of them. Pretty much all dismissed. My personal favorite
was some loon from England who filed a suit which claimed Governor
Palin denied her employment. The Limey never applied for a job in
Alaska, or even visited the state....but she sued, and Sarah had to
pay a lawyer to fight the suit, and she had to take time from her
duties as governor to answer the complaint.

Really? Please list the major drilling accidents that happened under
President Bush. Please don't bother with anything that's dumped less
than one percent the amount that Barrack Petrolatum is expected to
dispense.

I have checked it, as it happens. The worst drilling "disaster"
during the Age of Competence (2001 - 2009) was a cracked seal that,
over an eight month period, released less oil that BP is spewing in
any given hour (some estimates have it a less then is spewed in 15
minutes.) Trust me, if you guys had something real to hang on Bush,
we would have heard about it looooooooooooooong ago.

Why didn't Obama fix this desperately troubled agency over the past
year?

1. If they were so corrupt during the Bush administration, why didn't
we have major drilling accidents from 2001 - 2009?

2. If the MMS was so corrupt post Jan 20th, 2009, why didn't Obama
replace them?

In a recent poll, the people of Louisiana believe Bush did a better
job with Katrina than Obma's doing with the Gulf spill . Oil Slick
Barry quadrupled Bush's deficit average, created double digit
unemployment, and has set in motion the destruction of Ameican
HealthCare.

"History
Further information: Anglo-Iranian Oil Company
Activity in 1909–1979

In May 1901, William Knox D'Arcy was granted a concession by the Shah of
Iran to search for oil, which he discovered in May 1908.[11] This was
the first commercially significant find in the Middle East. On 14 April
1909, the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) was incorporated as a
subsidiary of Burmah Oil Company to exploit this.[11] In 1935, it became
the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC).[11]

After World War II, AIOC and the Iranian government initially resisted
nationalist pressure to revise AIOC's concession terms still further in
Iran's favour. But in March 1951, the pro-western Prime Minister Ali
Razmara was assassinated.[12] The Majlis of Iran (parliament) elected a
nationalist, Mohammed Mossadeq, as prime minister. In April, the Majlis
nationalised the oil industry by unanimous vote.[13] The National
Iranian Oil Company was formed as a result, displacing the AIOC.[14] The
AIOC withdrew its management from Iran, and organised an effective
boycott of Iranian oil. The British government - which owned the AIOC -
contested the nationalisation at the International Court of Justice at
The Hague, but its complaint was dismissed.[15]

By spring of 1953, incoming U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower
authorised the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to organise a coup
against the Mossadeq government with support from the British
government.[16] On 19 August 1953, Mossadeq was forced from office by
the CIA conspiracy, involving the Shah and the Iranian military, and
known by its codename, Operation Ajax.[16]
Classic shield logo, designed by Raymond Loewy, used from 1979 to 2000
and still in use in a small number of petrol stations.

Mossadeq, prince (Shahzadeh) of Qajar Dynasty, was replaced by
pro-Western general Fazlollah Zahedi,[17] and the Shah, who returned to
Iran after having left the country briefly to await the outcome of the
coup. The Shah abolished the democratic Constitution and assumed
autocratic powers.

After the coup, Mossadeq's National Iranian Oil Company became an
international consortium, and AIOC resumed operations in Iran as a
member of it.[14] The consortium agreed to share profits on a 50–50
basis with Iran, "but not to open its books to Iranian auditors or to
allow Iranians onto its board of directors."[18] AIOC, as a part of the
Anglo-American coup d'état deal, was not allowed to monopolise Iranian
oil as before. It was limited to a 40% share in a new international
consortium. For the rest, 40% went to the five major American companies
and 20% went to Royal Dutch Shell and Compagnie Française des Pétroles,
now Total S.A..[19]

The AIOC became the British Petroleum Company in 1954. In 1959 the
company expanded beyond the Middle East to Alaska[20] and in 1965 it was
the first company to strike oil in the North Sea.[21] In 1978 BP
acquired a controlling interest in Standard Oil of Ohio or Sohio, a
breakoff of the former Standard Oil that had been broken up after
anti-trust litigation.[22]

BP continued to operate in Iran until the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
After 1979, during the Iran-Iraq war, the oil refineries were destroyed
and Iran became a raw supplier of oil. The new regime of Ayatollah
Khomeini broke all prior oil contracts and signed new contracts with
British Petroleum with 90% to BP and 10% to Ayatollah Khomeini and his
followers."

The Patriot Act overrules that in every way. The Bill is meaningless.

Interesting, I always thought that for an invading force to "cross
Alaska", they would in fact be invading Canada. More to the point, if an
invading force actually entered Alaska they, by definition, have invaded
the USA.

Palin must be French! They believed in a Maginot Line too.
