For One and All,

Using a AM/MW Loop Antenna with the Eton E1 Radio
Question - Whip Antenna Up-or-Down ?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ETON-E1-XM-Radio/message/2990

When you are using a AM/MW Loop Antenna directly
connected to Eton E1 Radio - Most of the time the
built-in Whip Antenna 'should be' Collapsed Down
into the Radio.

WHY - The Loop Antenna is a Directional Antenna and
give the best results "Peak" or "Null" when used
by itself.

HOWEVER - The Whip Antenna is an Omni-Directional
Antenna and will pick-up everything from All-A-Round.
When the Whip Antenna is Fully Extended it gathers
more AM/MW Signals and thus generally reduces the
effectiveness when the Loop Antenna is being used.

WHIP-UP -and- WHIP-DOWN
{ Do the Test Yourself }
Try the Whip Antenna "Up" with a Loop Antenna and
then try the Whip Antenna down with a Loop Antenna
on the AM/MW Band :

* First with the Whip Antenna "UP go from the Bottom
to the Top of the Band and Record the Frequency and
Signal Strength of 15 -25 AM Radio Stations.

* Then repeat the Process with the Whip Down.

Hope you find the Results interesting.

Just something to do when everything else is done.

An easier solution, would be to spend $65 for a Degen 1103 (1/8th the
price), which comes with an internal ferrite-bar antenna.

Now, now, don't be too critical of our resident link spammer!

RHF is not too bright when it comes to technical issues such as
switches.....:-)

I use mine with a Quantum QX Pro Loop, and leave the antenna extended
so when I switch to FM it will work w/o having to scope the antenna
back up again. Never a problem.

Maybe RHF has had too much RHF directed inside his skull and that pea
sized brain is bouncing off those walls!
