I've seen such radios at our PX. Mostly cheap ghetto blasters that will play
mp3 or wma files though the USB.

They exist all right. I own a COBY MP-CD475 <

> which has an AM/FM radio, a CD player, and a USB port through which
one can play audio files from a thumb drive or anything that can
connect through the port. As a "boom box," it is rather small and
easily transportable. Its overall sound quality is adequate, no more.

But I have to tell you that, in fact, this unit is rather pathetic. As
a radio, any dollar-store radio will outperform it. As a CD player, I
know of none worse. It can sometimes play a CD all the way through
but, just as often, it stops right in the middle of a CD for no
apparent reason. It DOES play mp3 files just fine and will even play
mp3 files that you have burned to CD (it does seem to get through all
of them okay).

It comes with an AC cord which you will most likely need to use. Its
battery compartment is one of those "Chinese" ones that are made too
small; it is EXTREMELY difficult - if not impossible - to insert the 4
"C" batteries. They just don't fit! And, if you do get them in, just
TRY to put the battery cover back on!

The only "saving grace" for this radio, at least for me, is that I got
it for free when I bought some printer ink cartridges from Office
Depot. I'd have been quite upset had I paid money for this unit. Of
course, mine could be an anomaly. But, frankly, I doubt it.

I suggest investigating further. I'm sure you'll be able to find
something satisfactory, something better than the COBY MP-CD475.

Best,

Joe
