The latest issue of _Trans_World_Radio_ magazine mentions that the 500-
kW powerhouse on the island of Bonaire will be shut down sometime before
the end of the year. It will be replaced by a 100-kW solid-state
transmitter and a 4-tower directional array that will still provide
adequate coverage of the target areas of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and
the Amazon basin. The reason for this is that the cost of operation wil
lbe substantially less with the lower-power XMTR. Now is the time to log
and verify the 800-kHz 500-kW operation before it goes off forever.

Do note they plan to use a directional array beaming at Cuba. Much of the
U.S. will be in the path of the directional pattern. I would not be at all
surprised if their signal here in the U.S. will be just as strong (maybe
even stronger) than with 500kW non-directional.
