METEORSCATTER News:
Even in 2009, Geminids shower has produced very good meteor rates
as usual. ZHR has remained over 100 hr-1 value for about 14 hours
consecutively! Two maxima, reaching approximately same ZHR value
(about 120 hr-1) have been observed, at about 18 UT on Dec. 13th
and 01 UT on Dec. 14th; both have occurred earlier than predicted
maximum time. A brief overview of 2009 Geminids shower activity is
avaliable at our MS-Propagationpage (www.MMMonVHF.de/ms.php ),
together with BCC-ACTIVITYMAP (where you can determine what squares
have been activated in MS during BCC Test) and first predictions
about 2010 Quadrantids shower.

EME Program News:
GJTRACKER 2.05 is now up on the website in both the overall package
(.zip file as well as the stand-alone .exe):
http://bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/GJTRACKER.zip
http://bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/GJTRACKER.exe
In order to allow the update to work with existing setup files, I
did not change the links to any startup files....this allows you to
just upgrade the .exe application file if you wish to be able to use
the "maximum Degradation limit" feature in version 2.05. Each time
you run the program, it will default to a zero for the Maximum Degrad.
which permits all values of degradation to be displayed (just as in
previous versions of the program). I also have not changed the GJHELP
documentation file to reflect this feature. Remember that these
Degradation values are only estimates, and may differ by up to a dB
or so from the Degradation values displayed by WSJT. However, you
still may find this new feature helpful to quickly determine the
relative best days of the month for potential EME contacts on the
VHF bands. GL and VY 73, Lance, W7GJ to MMMonVHF

SILENT KEYS:
Very SAD NEWS AGAIN - It has come to us notice that Nico, DB8KJ,
has become Silent Key. Another great radio-gent has lost for ever.
Nico was one of the famous radio amateurs in the "Eifel-Mountains"
who never lost a tropo opening towards west - he was one of the
first members of the VHF-DX-Group DL West and did build up the
"beacon award" which is known by lot of VHFers.
The Team of MMMonVHF will pass our deep sympathy and condolences
to his family. Rest in peace, Nico! (tnx to Reg, G8VHI, for info)

GB75BRS - Special Event Stations JO01QX
In recognition of the historic events that took place in 1935 and
1940 which played a significant part in Britain?s war effort,
Bawdsey Manor will be activated on three separate occasions during
2010. During its time as the radar research centre and as an
operational station for Chain Home radar, it was known by the
acronym BRS Bawdsey Research Station. Special event callsigns with
BRS as the suffix have been applied for to recognise this. Over the
weekend of 26 to 28 Feb 2010, we will be on the air on HF, 6m and
VHF, operating CW, SSB and possibly some digital modes too. The
callsign requested is *GB75BRS*, since this operation will
commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Daventry Experiment, which
resulted in radar development in the UK being based first at
Orfordness, then at Bawdsey. Later in the year we will operate on
two weekends to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the start and
end of the Battle of Britain in 1940. The callsign GB70BRS has been
requested. These weekends will be 5/6 June, and 18/19 Sept.
Operating bands and modes will be as for the February event. Members
of the public, and students from the school now based at the Manor,
will be welcomed at any of the events, where there will also be
display materials relating to Bawdsey?s history during this period.
A special QSL card will be issued to those making contact with
either of the stations, and a parchment certificate will be available
on request to stations who make contact with both callsigns / info
about the stations, operation and QSL arrangements can be found on
our web site at http://www.bawdseyresearchstation.org.uk
UPDATE: 50 MHz Operators are *M1DUD / OZ3RE* and *2E0IAF / OZ9SP*.
Modes of Operation on 50 MHz will be SSB/CW/WSPR/JT6M (MS)/ RTTY and
possibly a demonstration on SSTV if time permits! 73 de OZ3RE
