San Diego Radio Watcher Update 9.11.95:
KNX [1070 50kw] celebrated 75 years of broadcasting on Sunday. The
Los Angeles news station began broadcasting as "6ADZ" on Sept. 10.
The station started at 500 watts, and then jumped to 50kw in 1934, for
trans-coast service [remember those days of great DXing?].
According to Gary Lycan's Orange County Register column on Sunday, the
station was bought by CBS in 1936, and started with studios on Sunset Blvd
two years later.
On April 15, 1968, the format was changed to all news. KNX, based in LA,
has a sizeable San Diego and North San Diego listener base.
Also:
KKOS is testing the 95.7 transmitter. The station, currently at
95.9, will shift frequency at noon on Friday. It is reported that
the call letters will be KUPR. [I'm sure there is a method to the
call-letter madness.]
Various e.mails to my new address indicated great reception south of
the Sorrento Valley area on 95.7; and as suspected by me, loss of the
LA KLOS at 95.5. The new KUPR will have/has an ERP of 7.2kw, vice 7.8kw
as previously reported.
KCBQ-AM is carrying high school football this season. Previously, KBNN,
the 48watt [non ERP too] station in Julian filled that role [and much
to my praise.] A complete schedule of KCBQ's fall pigskin feast is at:
http://www.kcbq.com, or e.mail me, I can send the electrons your way.
Thanks to Bill Lipis who corrected me on my whining about HS sports.
Other call letter or changes in the works/or done include:
KKLA(FM) LA to KKLA-FM
KLFE(AM)San Bernardino to KKLA
1190kHz KORG Anaheim granted CP to increase day power to 20kw and change
directional pattern. This station has been a time brokered station.
107.9 KWVE San Clemente granted a CP to Santiago Peak for 0.56kw at 1125
meters HAAT using directional FM antenna.
For my Sacremento friends, can you confirm that KLVW is an AM station?
KBNN, Julian [100.1, 48 screaming watts] has applied for KLVW-FM as the
new calls. The former adult contemporary station was sold and shifted
format about two weeks ago. The satellite is from the K-LOVE Radio Network
in Sacramento.
