Seen Gene Rump?

Last I heard, old Gene was doing TV news on a small station
somewhere in Mississippi.

I'll never forget his broadcasting wisdom. Many years ago, during
the time he was PD at 1240 (now KNSS then, KAKZ) in Wichita, he had
the tremendous insight to tell me that I was wasting my time as a
broadcaster and that I should go to another field. Well, I later
did mid-days and afternoon drive here in Wichita and am still
today, working part time in the business. Shows ya what he knew
huh!

Personally, I was glad to see him pack his stuff and move.

Yes, in fact Gene Rump is doing news at a station in Mississippi. However,
I don't know that I'd call it small -- it is the #2 station in the state's
largest metro area (Jackson).

He goes by "Gene Edwards" now, and co-anchors the 5pm news on WAPT-16.
Please tell me Rump is his real name and the backwaters conservatism that
kep NYPD Blues off the same station forced him to adopt an airname...

I grew up in the Wichita area (Pratt, KS, 75 miles west), and always liked
him on KAKE-TV. I'd forgotten he'd also been in radio -- you must've been
there during the time KAKE sitll owned 1240, or shortly thereafter. As I
remember, there wasn't a lot of visionary programming going on there or on
(now KRBB) KBRA when he was there.

Now I live in Jackson, and enjoy seeing him again. Unfortunately, he has
no phone lisitng under Rump (which I find a little suprising) or Edwards
(which doesn't suprise me at all). So the only conact info I can provide
is the station, WAPT, Channel 16, 601-922-1607
