ST. LOUIS --- It's official --- Jack Buck and Hank Stram have been
fired from their long-time Monday Night Football gig, a victim of
cost-cutting by Group W/CBS.

They are being replaced by Howard David and Matt Millen.

Buck told Dan Caesar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he
accepted a pay cut before the 1995 season, even before Group W had
acquired CBS. But after the season, when Group W was in control, he
had been asked again to accept a cut, to which he said no.

Buck and Stram had been a team since 1977, when CBS acquired the
rights, except for the 1985 and 1986 seasons, when the rights were
owned by NBC radio.

Buck will continue to broadcast St. Louis Cardinals home games for
KMOX and the Cardinals radio network, as well as hosting sports talk
shows for the flagship station. Stram, who lives in New Orleans, will
do some spot features for CBS.
