Just picked up a FT-990 and the lithium battery is dead. Can't find a
service manual with instructions on how to locate and replace the
battery. Would appreciate an e-mail or copy of the replacement
instructions for the battery in the FT-990. <k4...@cox.net>

What does this have to do with BOATANCHORS?

He thought it was a C battery, there merely for bias.

Discontinued, heavier than an S-38, broken down.

I think it meets the criteria.

I have an old BetaMax from the pre-VHS days.
It is heavier than an S-38, doesn't work and has been discontinued.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, who'll start the bidding on this "boatanchor...?"

Thanks for the site for the manual dowload. I consider the FT-990 to
be a boat anchor because it is almost 20 years old and has a handle to
tie the anchor rope to to keep the boat from drifting. But, the
FT-990 is avery good computer in a radio box back before IC's, many
diodes and single stage transisters.
Found the 3V battery on the control board. But Yaesu used a spot
welded clamp to hold the battery, HARD to remove.
