It's been a while since the company name wsa mentioned here, I guess
another indicator of the fall of usenet.

But I could have sworn nobody ever mentioned "Radio Mart" in a good light,
it was always "that &$#)%)%# so and so, buying cheap and selling high".

Buying cheap and selling high is fine, that's what makes the economy work.

What is bad is buying cheap broken things and selling them at high prices
claiming that they are working when they are not. Also bad is buying a
cheap variant of a model and then selling it as a more expensive variant
when it is not. These practices are known as "fraud." Another bad thing
is to accept money for an item and then never, ever ship it.

Your description of his practices are more like all the posts I
remember about him! I was always surprised he never had anyone show
up at his door. I have known hams that would visit "Problem" sellers
as representitives of hams that were ripped off. With all the hoopla,
I sure hope this is accurate info on him. It would be a shame if
someone else was selling from those stalls.

Where is this guy from anyway?

Originally England. Been here is the U.S. since 1999 or so. He had a Ham
radio retail shop in a small English city. He developed a reputation
there for shadiness, but still had a few regular customers who'd stop
by. According to one of them, one day suddenly the store was shuttered
and Martyn was gone. He's been here since, pulling his stunts.

The reason no one has 'paid him a visit' is because he apparently knows
how to *really* b.s. people. On various website archives, you can find
quotes from implying that he owns a bunch of guns, is best friends with
Kentucky state troopers, things like that. As of this date no one's
called his bluff on that.

He has an Amazon.com radio store now, but it also appears his account
might've been suspended over complaints. It appears that way right now.

Yes, I'm starting to remember now. Sounds like a blowhard to me.
Wonder how many of his marks will visit him in Dayton, if it really is
him. If I had been ripped off by him and was going to be in OH he
would be in for a surprise. Don't much care for crooks dealing ham
goods!

Just a followup - Martyn was indeed at Dayton - he had a big truckload of interesting boatanchors for sale at very reasonable prices. His daughter was helping. Lots of folks (including me) were quite pleasantly surprised. Ya never know.

Some people are laughable.
Johns radios for example,, your quite pathetic,, broken nose in the first 2 hours,, what ever jerk... it is very naïve of you all to be taken in by the dozen or so whiners who make it sound like I am a real villain when we have been in business over 14 years and no broken nose, no threats etc wow I wonder why??? hmmm maybe the 18,000 positive feedback on ePay,, and what the 700 on Amazon etc wow shame on me... and the 17000 plus transactions from my web site in 4 years???

Michael Black, I will mention my name here as it promotes my company and free advertising is always good..

Scott
Well every business buys at a lower than retail price and resells Duh,, common business practices now as far as an item not working, it was either sold as such or being old electronics like you see in the pictures below,, I wonder how you would feel if you sold one and after a journey of say 3000 miles by UPS or FedEx and it arrived with a broken tube for example,, what would you post "oh Martyn Screwed me by selling a non working radio,,, What ever dude...

Dan I am from Georgetown KY my website is clear on that, www.radio-mart.net

SO I was at Dayton, sold over 5000 handhelds and 500 mobile rigs and it appears was the talk of the show? 90% of all the equipment I took there (over $250,000) sold :) thank you to all of those who purchased equipment from me there.

Well you bunch of whiners on here go shove it as I say, if you have a problem with me man up and say it to my face if not then go shove it,, oh re guns,, yes I have a good sized collection,, my QTH is good on all the callsign lists,, come take a look my callsign is K4TEC

Finally Nick why were you presently surprised? were you suckered in like so many to the lies and negative comments? oh I heard this from a friend of a friend etc?? when in fact its BS started by one of the famous dozen radio-mart haters

I remember Martyn.

He used to buy under the user name gottahave1t1995 then sell under the username radio-mart. Somewhere in transit the item he bought miraculously became a priceless piece owned by the founder of National or Hallicrafters or the bedside radio of FDR or some such bullsh*t. Now Martyn, you boast of 18,000 feedbacks on eBay, how many negatives did you get? You didn't mention that little nugget did you? I looked at his present eBay feedbacks and it looks like he only buys now under the radio-mart username. I wouldn't touch anything of his with a ten foot pole.

Here are a few of his satisfied customers from ebay strange how they are all similar. Misrepresented items...:

Item condition no way near as represented. Contemplating FRAUD claim.

Item FAR BELOW" pristine&immaculate"-Ship $ HI -Seller denies responsibility!

Despite hefty handling charges, packing was v.poor. Unit arrived badly damaged.

Not as described. Poorly packed. Both Eimac 3-500 broken. No contact.

Seller misrepresented item. Very nasty Emails, very bad person to deal with.

Guy is a phony watch out He had a false auction and never gave the winner mercha

Item not as described. Would not buy from again.

Not as dscrbd. Lstd as "xlnt"/like new. Was rusty, dented, broken part. No refund.

Fast, efficient shipping, but item was in much worse shape than described.

HAMS ARE GETTING TO KNOW YOU. JUST ADD ME TO THE 23 NEGS AND COUNTING!!!!!!!

Item was describe as “MINT”. Item received had rust and salt water marks.

Okay, a couple things here.

First of all, if you are shipping UPS, you need to be able to pack the
thing so it can withstand a six-food drop off the back of a loading dock,
because it's going to experience that.

That means pulling the tubes, packing them individually in bubble-wrap,
packing the equipment itself in bubble-wrap, and double-packing it. If
it's something very heavy like an R-390, it needs to be crated and
internal wooden supports made to prevent the PTO from shifting when the
crate is dropped.

You cannot just toss a piece of equipment into a box and expect it to
arrive at the other end. In addition, you cannot toss a piece of equipment
which is clearly broken and urine-soaked into a box and tell the buyer
that it works perfectly.

I understand that proper packing and proper checkout of equipment is
difficult and expensive, but it's necessary. And even so, you cannot
blame the urine-soaked Hallicrafters on packing.

I understand that buying low and selling high is what made America great,
but you can't allow your desire to buy low and sell high reach into the
point of either misrepresentation or corner-cutting.

I would gladly buy something from you at a hamfest. But I will never, ever
buy anything from you online where it's impossible for me to verify the
condition and the packing.

Come to Richmond Frostfest, and I'll say it to your face, and I might buy
something from you too. I gave up trying to get the money back for the
Hallicrafters years ago but I'll still bring it up to you. I don't hold a
grudge enough to not buy from you at a hamfest but I sure as hell will be
very careful if I do.

The problem is that you are creating new radiomart haters as you go. One
bad transaction can turn into a whole lot of very angry people, whereas one
good transation only turns into a single happy person. That's why avoiding
offending your customer base is so important. Shipping them urine-soaked
radios is not going to earn you good publicity.

Good old Marty burned a friend of mine on some Drake gear that was
suppose to be great and turned out to be junk. Now if I was Marty I
would not want this friend of mine on his bad side. He is determined he
will get his money back or take it back a pound of flesh at a time. I
say this will all seriousness if Marty reads this he better try and
square the deal with this fellow before the gates are opened and this
guy pays him a personal visit. He won't miss him when he shows up
defensive linemen scare me.;
