He just moved about 10 miles from his old house. The water service at his
new house is different from the water service at his old house.
His new pond has not been built so his fish are being held in a temporary
holding pond with major filtration.
One of his Kohaku suddenly lost it's orange colours and his now nearly
white! What could have caused this to happen?

As I understand it, this is not at all uncommon among Kohaku. I was
Just reading about this in Waddington's book "Koi Kichi". On any Koi
the Red/Orange will often fade over time while the black will tend to
be enhanced.
I too had a Kohaku that was almost entirely orange across its back. I
too did the temporary tank thing. When I put it in the new big pond
it was almost all white with a few orange spots. So I don't know if
it was the temporary, small, quarters or just the natural tendency of
the orange to fade.
