I would like to purchase a book on portrait photography and need
recommendations on the best book that will cover all aspects of the
techniques, the poses, the lighting and possibly the Canon 540ez flash.

I keep a list of most recommended Photo Books in the Photo Books section of my
web page. There are several good choices - probably best if you decide which
one is best for you!

Kodak's "The Portrait" is a pretty good intro with good quality examples
that don't look like they are from the '70s; it covers a fairly wide range
of portrait types & styles. You may wish to look at specialized books
relating to the type of portrait you want to do (e.g.. Wedding, Glamour,
Individuals, etc.) for more details. Check your local camera shop.
