A pretty small percentage of my own traffic comes from search engines. Alta Vista,
Lycos and Yahoo seem to be the biggies, but still only accounted for 123 out of
5,360 page views (two week period). Of those hits, 114 were from Alta Vista. The
vast majority come from links on other sites, some not related to photography.
I guess time will tell if updating my own meta tags will change the search-engine
traffic...I think what matters most is getting the KIND of traffic you want. For
example, I'd much rather have 80% of my traffic be people looking for decor prints,
or reputable publishers, than people just looking to see "purty picthers". ;>

had one page as it should be of course this was over two years ago and at
time I had no meta tags.
I thought this was something new you just did. Steal a meta tag from someone
in top ten and edit out things that get me caught, ok that be easy to do.
Now can any one go to Yahoo and get my first site below listed. The guy that
steals picture's has his listed. So have at it, mine is mine and I'm not
selling anything like most. Maybe that's it , its not a business site.

This poor investors still wants Yahoo to list me. Search after wasting much
time I found birds subject. Keywords worthless here. I still don't see why
people made this place the biggest by far. You got get listed here some how
some where if your selling. These people know ABC's real good. Aaron would
always bet Zed. Make a special page like index1 with a title American
Flowers or something here. Link to index page. Redirect 10 second would be
better, but if real humans did really look you'd be caught. So wait on that
part to listed.

that search engines are mostly overwhelmed.
If you just type keywords into a search engine you'll never find what you're
looking for. You need to form a query. Fortunately, that's really easy these
days. Used to be you had to be a nerd, and understand boolean searches, but now
you can get really detailed results by using plain English (I realize that's
"politically incorrect" to say, but hey, everyone posting to this list seems to
speak pretty good English, so it's relevant ;>).
I like http://www.ask.com
In part, because I can form detailed queries in plain English, but also because
it returns the top 10 hits from several search engines. If more granularity is
needed then a boolean search helps a lot.
For instance at http://www.ask.com I just now typed in "where can I learn how to
do bird watching".
And got 52 hits, most of them extremely relevant. It lists the hits by search
engine, and if the top 10 from a given search engine aren't enough, then you can
click on the link to the particular search engine link and find all relevant
hits. It's really cool. If you haven't tried "Ask.com", check it out, it can
save you a lot of time.
One day at work the topic of hummingbird nests came up, so we went to
http://www.ask.com and typed "where can I find pictures of hummingbird nests",
and seconds later we were looking at the page we wanted.
My second favorite is Alta Vista, because they allow "boolean" searches. I'm not
a nerd but have been using boolean searches for years, just because it used to
be the only way to get the signal-to-noise ratio down where it belonged. ;>
"Boolean" is just some weird word that means "logical". Use qualifier words
such as "AND' 'OR' NOT' 'NEAR', along with parenthetical expressions, and it's
an extremely powerful way to search. There's more information at the Alta Vista
site, just click on "advanced search" and click on one of their "help" links on
the top right of the page.
