I would like to start developing my own color slides. What is needed for
this? The local camera stores don't know anything about it. Are there any
books that you would recommend? What is the aproximate cost?

I haven't read all the replys but for a starter kit it should cost more
that 15 to 20 dollars and this will let you develope 3 to 5 rolls of
film. Eastman has a book(pamphlet) on developing e-6. and unless you
know someone real good at eastman developing K-14(kodachrome) will have
to be done at the lab. slide holder can be bought for 5-6 bucks(per
100),but then it depends on the quality of the slide holder you want.
direction come with the kits for developing and mixing.and push and pull
times are usally 1/4 the time per stop.

Most of the film and chemestry comapnies have slide "starter" kits.
These kits in the $15 - $25 range will devlop 3 - 6 rolls of 36exp film.
They can be used in normal B&W darkrooms; the only dark step is loading
the reels.

I use a deep dish (3") full of water as a tempture bath; I add ice or hot
water to keep the temp constant and sit the dev. tank in the water
between agitations. Works fine.

Call B&H photo in NYC (800.947.9960), they have Unicolor E6, $25.95;
Kodak SLIDE KIT (E6), $12.95; Photocolor E6 $24.90, etc.
