I am a fledgling (amateur) portrait photographer specializing in senior
portraits who would like to find the kind of labs that the pros use to
process their negatives. I live close to Minneapolis. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I tried to get CPQ to accept my film. They led me to believe that they
would accept amateur film for processing. I corresponded several times via
e-mail just to make sure. They sent me their account package but when it
came down to actually setting up an account, they refused because I was not
a pro. They want a tax id number. I suggested my SSN, which is legal for a
small business but they still balked. I appealed to the
supervisor/manager-type person but to no avail. If you try them, make sure
you tell them what they want to hear.

Herff-Jones in Burnsville and White House Custom Colour in St. Paul are
school-portrait-wedding labs who will take your amateur film. Linhoff in
Edina is a full service pro lab, they will take your film. Pro color takes
amateur film. They also work for most of the ad agencies downtown. They're
at Ninth or Tenth on Hennepin. Supra Color in Edina won't take you unless
you're a working pro who gives them enough business to make it worth their
while.

If you're doing school photography on long roll, Herff-Jones is the only one
I know that can do that. Not sure about Pro Color, but HJ is a school lab
offering all the amenities, and they're fully digital if you want to go that
way.
