First, thanks to all who responded first time round, here's hoping someone
will be able to help again this time.

Okay, my needs are still for a medium format camera to be used with a wide
angle lens with and AOV close to 90 degrees, that will be used with ND (and
other) grad filters, mounted on a Manfrotto 055Pro (Bogen 3021Pro) with 410
(3275) and 468 (3435) heads. The camera is to be used for landscape work,
and possibly architecture shots as well (from a touristy persepctive), and
possibly even macro work in the future should i want something more than my
EOS3/100mm macro lens can currently provide for me.

Anyway, I had been leaning towards the Pentax 67 MU with 45mm lens until the
follwoing occured:

1) I realised that 6x7cm projectors are somewhat scarce on the ground (in
the UK at least), and very expensive. While i'm looking mostly to make big
prints to liven up my office wall (since i don't have a window to look out
of :( ), i will want to project on occasion, so this is an important issue

2) I have more money to spend than i thought - almost double the original
amount in fact! Approx £1500 ($2100).

After a quick look round, I've started to contemplate the Bronica SQ
system - particularly the 40mm f4 PS lens (which should give about the same
AOV as the Pentax's 45mm) and a SQ-Ai body or possible an SQ-A at minimum.

However, before i go ahead and order, i have a few questions:

1) Okay, obviously the first question is are there any nasty surprises to
watch out for with that system (the SQ)?
2) Can anyone comment about the image quality produced by the respective
wide angle lenses of the systems? I'm thinking primarily of the Bronica 40
vs the Pentax 45, but Bronica 50 vs Pentax 55 are being considered as well.
3) Given the increased budget and usage requirements listed at the top,
would anyone be willing to recommend an alternative? I'm not looking for
rangefinders, or anything else where it's going to be tricky/impossible to
use an ND grad.

Ultimately i'm looking for top quality image for my pound, and if that means
going with the Pentax over the Bronica i can probably live without
projection for a year or so to scrape together the pennies for a 6x7
projector.

Thanks

Simon

If you were looking at Pentax, consider the Pentax 645. Other considerations
would be Mamiya 645 or Broniga ETRSi 645.
I almost never see landscape images printed square. Cropping from a 6X6
negative results in what you would get if you started from a 645 negative in
the first place. The resulting image quality would be the same. 645 slides
will work in any 6X6 projector. You also would make better use of your film
shooting 645.
I personally like the Mamiya 645 and 35mm lens.
As for problems with the Bronica, I had a repairman tell me that he has a
very hard time getting parts for the Bronica. I really don't know if this is
a common problem or not.

Good luck,
Dan

just be sure that you understand that a "90 degree angle of view" with a
40mm lens means 90 degrees diagonally, not vertically or horizontally.
There it is only 70 degrees on 6x6cm. This is less than a 24mm on 35mm SLR
horiz. coverage (73.7 degrees), assuming a similar crop (~26mm on 35mm
slr equiv.). You need about an 18mm on 35mm SLR to get 90 degrees or 1/4
of a circle coverage, and there are NO rectilinear lenses in 6x6cm that
cover 90 degrees horizontally (veriwide 100 is closest, but is 6x9+cm)

I've discounted the 645 format since 6x6 gives me the option of either
square format or cropping. Since i've now found that Cabin do a cheap 6x7
projector, I've decided that the Pentax 67 should suffice for my needs given
the lens line up available
