Hi all,

I've got another one for you...

Have any of you heard of an "Atar" lens? The "Atar" is written in
cursive script on a brass telescoping lens (it doesn't have an iris)?
There is no "R" (as in "Artar") that I can see.
The lens itself appears to be old (say 19th century). It's
approximately 4 1/2" in length, when
closed.

As always, many thanks.

Is there any other writing on the lens? The name is a new
one to me.

Sounds like a Spanish bondage device.

Yes. There is more writing (including what looks like a maker's mark
symbol). Here's a link to several pictures, as well as a brief
description:

I was incorrect in my previous posting. There is an adjustable iris.

Thanks!

Could be _O l t a r_ just as well. Of course, I never heard of that either,
but there are many makers of whom I have not heard.
