Hmm. Better models, better gear.
Medium format? Sure, but it's no more OT than the original post.

So why didnt you attempt to capitalise on that notion?
Yes, this is a portrait, in so much as it portrays a guy, with enough
(very uninteresting) lighting to render it recognisable as such, and your
D60 has simply done what it says on the box it came in, and recorded the
above.
The wallpaper background, and the shadow rendered against it is a crime
against what looked like a fine opportunity.
Now, I wonder what a skilled, crafted photographer loaded with an F3, a
Nikkor 85mm and either HP5 or Reala might have made of this ..?
There would undoubtedly been a lot more character to the final result.
Similarly someone more discerning and skilled using a D60 would have been
able to capitalise on this opportunity.
Annika, sometimes you just make yourself look like a foolish boy with a
toy.
This is a prime example.
Get the EOS1 out again, and take up some night classes or something ..

The background is not very interesting and not blur. The
old man and the sportive hat doesn't match but this
doesn't tell people any story.
It can be put on a family album. But I don't think anybody
other than your family would be very interested in it.
For such family photo, a good P+S can do it well. It doesn't
need to use a "yuppie" camera (one which got nice looking,
18 "advanced" functions but doesn't help the skill of the
photographer).
As many photo teacher would say to a student who
use a film with a lens : "good equipment. SHOW ME
YOUR PHOTO".
You can better try to "pan" the camera for a moving
car with slow shutter speed. You can hit a sharp car
within 100 shoot. This would be expensive to experiment
with using film camera and this make your D60 different.
Also, try to learn lightning using D60 is a good idea.
You can experiment with different lightning direction
without buying film.
Ming.
Look into softer lighting, with a softer key light on one side and fill
(reflected or softboxed) a couple stops down on the other. (male
subjects usually do okay with harsher key lights than women).
Pull the chair well away from the wall. Get more DOF.
Get the subject to look up to his left, or down to his right. Use less
DOF, etc. etc. ... buy a book on portrait photography and ligting.
And by the way, a throw away P&S can do just as well.
Alan
I don't think anyone could have put it better than that!
Well, we speak the language better too.
And as a gentlemen I will refrain from comparing a GIF from a dead
Fortunecity link to some of a certain German classic rangefinder
aficionados' "images".
It just wouldn't be fair to him.
I like the second one quite a bit.

I second the seconding of the second one .. :)

Hi Josie,
Thanks for posting a link to photo that has character, displays a good eye
and good technique.
I guess critique is almost Off Topic for this NG, but its nice to see this
example as a change from the recent offerings - mainly from one crazed
individual :)
Yep, I really like TMax 3200 too - perfect for this sort of occasion, as
was the 'old' Fujichrome P1600 (R.I.P.)- it was crazy good stuff ( I've
still got one roll deep frozen :)
Cheers!
M.
