Hi Ian,

The workers are installing a new cable, they were in the process of
*tensioning* the cable when I took the shot.
You'll notice it's the only cable sagging.
There were no ground workers, only one other man on the pole to his
right pulling from that side. Would have got both workers in the frame
but the other was hidden behind a pine tree.
Was finishing a roll of 800, not the ideal film for this situation.

Thanks for your input.

I like your submission. The face looks familiar although I can't place
it.

Nyet, Russian not spoken here other than a few expletives.
Why do you ask?

Definitely a strong resemblance of the two of them.
Maybe they're related.

4 Cup/1 Liter Pyrex measuring cup half full of water, sun at about 30
degrees. projected onto a piece of white paper. I just saw it by the
kitchen sink and thought that's neat! Played around with the measuring cup
at different angles, some blue and green bottles in the background for
effects and picked this as "most in-tense". The artifacts were mostly from
the measuring cup. If I did it again, I think I would pick a dark colored
paper and shoot at a slower speed. If nothing else, it was an entertaining
practicum of optics theory.

Art is whatever anyone wants to pay for; I doubt that this is it. If it is
please send cash to...

Your English is fine. In fact it's outstanding.
Pole is the word IMO.
In fact around these parts, no matter what it's used for it's a
'telephone pole'.
On the other hand, can't say I've ever heard 'electric pillar' before,
although it sounds like fun.

tell that to my russian-english-russian lingvo dictionary
it's his idea of "pillar" substitute for the "pole"
my english is better on P mode than on manual

p.s. it's a pity there're no more comments

How does somebody named Ian Green happen to be reared in Russia?

It was what I wanted to do as soon as I heard the mandate, too. I
then spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find pond-skaters or water
spiders to model for me. Alas, even in Florida, it appears to be too early
in the season.

So the shot is out of my stock, from an assignment a few years back.
They do indeed go crazy if you get close, so I cheated and collected
several to bring home. This was actually photographed in an aquarium, with
numerous leaves inserted to mimic the stagnant ponds they prefer.

I never liked the bright reflection, myself, but at the same time
this was one of the few shots where the bending of the water under each leg
is highly visible, and that needed this light direction. Natural light from
an open window, too.

Thanks for taking the time, "Yoda language" comments and all! I never
did get back to that post in rec.photo.misc like intended, but let me
apologize for missing the humor in it - went right past me. I hate when I
do that. But thanks, as well, for the compliments on my site, and I'm still
going through yours, but it's been a good selection of images so far, and I
recommend it to others: http://xeto.front.ru/

seen the great example one foggy evening
but according to murphy's law hasn't my tripod with me
