My Photograph- This was taken outdoors in the early morning fall sun on the
last relatively warm day of this year. I used my EOS 50mm 1.4 lens aperture
priority @ F8 with Kodak Supra 200. I am not sure if this film is the same
emulsion as the old Supra. I buy imported 5-packs from Adorama. It comes in
200, 400 & 800. Let me just add the little waiver that my photo looked
great in the original matte print. The web version did not turn out as well
as I had hoped it would. I was in a rush. I wanted to submit my photograph
before I left for Finland.
Rich Pos- This photograph was very well planned and executed. Not only are
there six different cameras in the photo, but also each camera is dressed
differently. The BG appears to be a white tiled floor? Perfect degree of
contrast and good shadow detail. Excellent photograph.
Joseph Kewfi- Were you in one of the other cars when you took this
photograph? You have captured the moment in what appears to be a low light
situation. Nice job, Joseph.
Al Denelsbeck- Like I said in my other post, I do not understand your
surprise. However, I really like the photograph. How far was your lens from
the subject(s)? Very good DOF control.
Jerry Howe- Very nice piece. They don't make those any more. They only make
the airgun replicas now. Webley only made 2 handgun models, but they were
dead accurate. Go figure, a British gun company. Unheard of in modern
times! Quite a bold photo entry for such a politically correct day and age.
Jim Kramer- I really like when people are not afraid to think outside of
the box. You have a very clever way of doing things. Sometimes the best way
from point A to point B can be other than a straight line. Nice.
Alan Browne- Another creative endeavor. People are really using their heads
in the shootin. Excellent choice of colors. The layout is perfect. Color
balance, composition and contrast level are dead on. Excellent photograph.
George Carbuff- When I first jumped into the water here, I was concerned
about the quality of my photographic equipment compared to the average
shootin participant. George has demonstrated with this photograph that the
photographer takes the picture...not the camera. Excellent composition.
Very good idea. I also have an A60 and I have found it to be a great backup
camera for almost any situation that does not require large prints.
Svetlana Nevski- Thanks to you, I am no longer the new kid on the block.
Very impressive debut photograph. The composition, color balance, and DOF
control are perfect. Great job.
Matt Clara- Upon first glance of the thumbnail, I chuckled to myself. I
thought you were giving the middle finger to your wedding ring. Then I
opened the image and came across the caption. At that point, I was
ROTFLMAO. Sweet.
Charlie D- Like I said in another post, you have a big pair of meatballs. I
would have vomited if that nasty creature came anywhere near me. Nice job.
Leroy Jolicoeur- She is an absolutely adorable child. The age of six is a
great year. Stunning-quality portrait. Did you use Portra B&W? Or is this a
DSLR shot? These are the kind of photographs I want to take with my new
10D.
Bowser- They are so cute. I know from photographic children that it is not
easy to get all of your multiple subjects to look at the camera
simultaneously. How were you able to achieve it here? Are you Michael
Landon or something? Very cute photograph.
Elie- This photograph makes me want to go on a chocolate binge. There goes
my diet. Nice composition. I like the blurring, too.
Andrew Colquhoun- This is one of my favorites in this series. A crown jewel
among diamonds. Excellent photograph. I just love the concept and it is
executed perfectly here.
Martin F- A multi-layered mandate photograph. Excellent accomplishment.
Parv- I like this very much. Like I said in an earlier post, this
photograph conveys a welcoming hint of patriotism. This is a very bold
photograph.
Vic M- This was a very clever idea. You are a free thinker, and a great
photographer.
Tony P- Like I said in an earlier post, I like this a lot. I love the big
blue sky and the six pillars at the top of the dome. Very nice.
Simon Lee- Excellent composition. The background is perfect for the white
dice. Clever idea. Nice job.
Nick James- This is another one of my favorites in this lot. To those of us
who are familiar with this toy, it is purely a blast from the past. To
those of us who are not, it should be laced with mystery. Great photograph.
Bret- The six-sided objects are everywhere around us, but we overlook so
many. You have found one that most people would overlook. Good eye. Nice
job.
Bob H- This photograph has a retro look to it. You served the mandate on a
silver platter here. Excellent discovery on your part. Did it take you a
long time to find this scene?
Thaddeus Lipshitz- A like the mysterious shadows the hit the faces of the
six people here. Very attractive backdrop and I always love a bright blue
sky. Good photograph.
Kin Lau- Spooky. Psychedelic. Spacey. This is a good selection for the
given mandate. Great photography here.
Gordon- You probably took this with a relatively long telephoto lens.
Excellent composition. I like everything you've submitted to the shootin so
far. Nice stuff.
Michael Stevens- This photograph is good enough to be a screen saver. Just
get those dice moving all over the screen. Good photograph.

The small thumbnail does not show well, but the larger image is a nice
composition. I thought, "why did I not do that" when I saw it. However, the
only similar image I have was from a recent job, and did not have six strings:
<http://www.bigtimeoperator.com/Jazz2003/1125_24BW_bass.jpg> looks like a
missed a few dust spots . . . . oh well, time for some editing.

Actually, a 28 mm, and off a tripod. Had to use some strong ND filtration to
make it work to the longer shutter speed.

Thanks for the complements. Glad you enjoyed the images.

I am glad you liked it Richard, I was quietly please with that shot just in
case you missed how I did it I will post it below (as replied to PARV).
It was just one of those things that slowly progressed and then and then I

Maybe you didn't see the camera reflection ! ... Doh !

Thanks for the comments Parv
Firstly let me just confirmed that it is not actually an archive photo, it
actually took me quite some time to get the photo taken last week.
And yes that is a reflection of the camera there but because of the amount
of time I had spent taking the photo in the first place I really couldn't be
bothered going back and doing it again.
OK, the middle two corks are blue tacked down, the other four corks were
loosely placed on the table which is a clear glass, I had a green cushion
placed under the clear glass, and when I pressed the shutter I blew the
other four corks causing them to blur as they rolled off the table. The
Idea progressed from what I was originally taking which was a picture of six
wine bottles hence the cork screw in the corks.
Basically this idea just came to me by accident.

Anyway, my shot was the usual dumb luck. I saw the goats from the road,
pulled over to a dirt road, walked to the fence with a 35-70 zoom, and when
they saw me, the all looked and froze. I had no idea I was that damned ugly,
but I guess so. The shot is a crop, since there were 7 goats in the
original, so I applied a little artistic license and dumped a goat in order
to fit the mandate. I took a couple of more, and would have taken a few
more, but the goats attacked. Yes, really. They all started acting like Sean
Penn, and one even came over the fence. I think he was demanding the film,
but in goat-speak. I kept the film.

The surprise(s) are to be revealed very shortly - look for 'Behind
the Dice'.
I was using my 105mm macro lens, so I think it was about a foot away?
(30cm). DOF could have been better, unfortunately - preview was
insufficient for the detail I was asking of the shot, and the depth is
quite large for a typical macro subject. I was using flash, so I could have
played safe and gone broader, but I wanted the background out of focus and
went too conservative.
Fun shot to conceive and set up, even if it looks a bit obvious.
Someone else remarked to me privately that they expected a *lot* of dice
shots, and three of us obliged ;-). But then again, I expected more jack-
o'-lanterns from last week's mandate...
Cheers!

Thanks for the generous comment. I'm not that happy with it myself. I
think I put a little too much light from above and it stole the punch a
little.
Cheers,
Alan,
