Cheap underwater bag-style housings -- any good?

basically a robust waterproof plastic bag with a window for the lens
to look through. It also has a few places for your fingers to reach into
the bag to work the controls.
Just search for it on Google or eBay and you'll find dozens of them.
Does anybody have any experience with this item? How does it compare
to a full ($$) underwater housing? I realize that this bag can't
go as deep as the fancier housings.

I met a photog using one of these on a fishing trip. He said they were great
in heavy rain, or in situations where you might get doused with water. (like
on a fishing trip) But he wouldn't use one to actually go beneath the water
with anything like an expensive camera)

I tried on for a P&S camera I have, and it was worthless. Holding the
cam in place while in the water was impossble and feeling the controls
through the thick plastic was also impossible. Don't waste your money.

Thanks for your input everybody. I guess the votes are in. I'll save my
money for a real housing.
