Anyone bought from Cambridge World?

Does anyone have any experience dealing with this company? They've got
a good price on a lens and I'd like to know if they're reputable.

My father and I have both bought a few items from Cambridge over the
years. I haven't had any real problems to speak of, but I will tell
you that I recently ordered a new camera bag from them (they were
about 50 dollars cheaper than B&H and Adorama on the same model), and
then a few days later when I checked their website, I see they are
down for some kind of inventory control. I emailed them, and got a
reply that I should expect shipment in about 2 weeks.

Cambridge is absolutely the WORST mail order photo company to do business with.
I ordered an item, it was never shipped, and even with a copy of my cancelled
check, they still wouldn't ship the item, return my telephone calls, or respond
to faxed letters. This was several years ago, and to this day, I've never
received the item or a refund. The item only cost $30.00, so I finally gave up.
It just wasn't worth the abuse I got from them the few times I did talk to
someone from the company on the telephone. Stay as far away from Cambridge as
possible!

Everyone who has experience with them spends the rest of their life avoiding
them.

You should pursue this as a matter of principle, and give them as much abuse
as you get from them - or more. It may not get a result but it may make you
feel better.

They get away with it in part because people don't bother.

Yes they are reputable, but it's a reputation nobody would want to have.

when i visited new york in 1997, walking all around and taking photos , late
one afternoon i was about to run out of film,[only kept a a few rolls in my
jacket pockets] and was right in front of cambridge. Well knowing their
reputation, i walked in the junky looking store just to buy 3 rolls of film
. They could not be honest even for a customer right in their store. Tried
to sell me overpriced grey market film . I just walked out of the store and
walked about 2 short blocks to where there was a drugstore that sold fuji
and kodak print film at a fair price.

I once spent an hour on the phone with them, on the premise that if one
was patient and persistant, you could eventually get a straight deal
out of anyone. I was wrong.

Yep. It was around 1976 or so that I refused to give up on a new Nikon F2
finder they had been advertising -- the one with the LEDs -- thought I'd
worn them down when they *finally* agreed to ship one at the price they'd
been advertising for months. When it arrived, it was loose in the box with
no packing material. When I say "loose," I mean no Nikon box, packing
material, documentation, warranty, nothin'.

1) It still worked
2) Last time I *ever* bought anything from them.

I bought a new Nikon F from them in 1970. I never did deal wtih them again.
Thought they were a ripoff.
