In New England we have frog ponds that look as mighty as that. ;^)

But the interesting thing about that picture is the series of islands that
appear to stretch across the river. I'm guessing they once supported the piers
of a railroad bridge. Am I right? And if so, do you know when and what
railroad?

All I see is a picture of some river, so are you talking about? As
for Obama at the White House, that is simply to laugh. We all know
the direction he would LIKE to take our country, but for now,
president-elect Barack Hussein Obama, why don't you START by
answering and publishing your own multiple page questionaire? For
examply, I am most interested in yours and your spouse's past
associations that might "be a conflict of interest or embarrasing".
Oh, you mean like Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, Father Flueger, Rev.
Jeremiah Wright, James Cone, Louis Farrakhan, and quite a few
others?

Taxes

. Give a tax break to 95% of Americans.

. Restore Clinton-era tax rates on top income earners.

. "If you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes increase by a
single dime. Not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, not your capital
gains taxes. Nothing."

. Dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be
able to do their taxes in less than five minutes.

. Give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job they create in
the U.S.

. Eliminate capital gains taxes for small business and startup companies.

. Eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000.

. Expand the child and dependent care tax credit.

. Expand the earned income tax credit.

. Create a universal mortgage credit.

. Create a small business health tax credit.

. Provide a $500 "make work pay" tax credit to small businesses.

. Provide a $1,000 emergency energy rebate to families.

Energy

. Spend $15 billion a year on renewable sources of energy.

. Eliminate oil imports from the Middle East in 10 years.

. Increase fuel economy standards by 4% a year.

. Weatherize 1 million homes annually.

. Ensure that 10% of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012.

Environment

. Create 5 million green jobs.

. Implement a cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

. Get 1 million plug-in hybrids on the road by 2015.

Labor

. Sign a fair pay restoration act, which would overturn the Supreme Court's
pay discrimination ruling.

. Sign into law an employee free choice act - aka card check - to make it
easier for unions to organize.

. Increase the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2009.

National security

. Remove troops from Iraq by the summer of 2010.

. Cut spending on unproven missile defense systems.

. No more homeless veterans.

. Stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq.

Social Security

. Work in a "bipartisan way to preserve Social Security for future
generations."

. Impose a Social Security payroll tax on incomes above $250,000.

. Match 50% of retirement savings up to $1,000 for families earning less
than $75,000.

Education

. Demand higher standards and more accountability from our teachers.

Spending

. Go through the budget, line by line, ending programs we don't need and
making the ones we do need work better and cost less.

. Slash earmarks.

Health care

. Lower health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.

. Let the uninsured get the same kind of health insurance that members of
Congress get.

. Stop insurance companies from discriminating against those who are sick
and need care the most.

. Spend $10 billion over five years on health care information technology.

And while were throwing names around, how about convicted Watergate burglar
and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy, or Keating who was convicted on over
70 felonies, and lets not mention that McCain is the only presidential
candidate to ever be censured by his party over ethical issues.

Anyway, enough politics in a photo group, Obama won, get used to it :-)

You are either a fool or haven't looked at this. I won't debate
nonsense like this until/unless you explain exactly how you give
a tax break to 40% of the people who pay ZERO taxes. It isn't a
tax cut, it is called welfare.

> . Restore Clinton-era tax rates on top income earners.

Yeah, real bright. So we'll go from the top 10% paying 90% of the
taxes BACK to the same group paying only 40% under Clinton? It is
quite easy to see you don't know what in Hell you're talking
about, you just quote stump speech talking points like all the
rest of the Far Left Loons.

> . "If you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes

Simply NOT true. In fact, depending on HOW you earn your AGI
dollars, people as low as $42,000 will see a tax increase.
Source: barackobama.com if it has been redacted away by now.

> . Dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of

Total horseshit. The IRS code is some 67,000 pages and I heard
NO-thing from the president-elect that answers this point.

> . Give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job

This one is right, but where does the money come from? Oh, yeah,
from taxing the same businesses!

No! This is just what he SAID late in the campaign, it is NOT
what his actual tax plan, again on barackobama.com, said it would
be.

Another late promise but one with no substance.

Why would you even want such a thing, even if it were possible?

Yeah, right after he enacts Socialized medicine worse than
Canada?

This one deserves some attention. What he actually said was this:
invest $150B over 10 years to put one million alternative fuel
vehicles on the road. Due the math, Oh Godless Wonder - this
works out to $150,000 per car! Nobody but a Loon would propose
such a thing!

> . Eliminate oil imports from the Middle East in 10 years.

Exactly how does he propose to do this? He is against domestic
drilling, against nuclear, against expanding the electrical grid
to promote wind and solar, for Ethanol subsidies and the
frightening idea of putting the coal companies out of business!
Again, his very words, friend.

> . Increase fuel economy standards by 4% a year.

No! This is already part of the current CAFE law which takes
effect in 2012. But, exactly what the Fuck does this have to do
with saving people taxes?

> . Weatherize 1 million homes annually.

Socialism. Who will pay for that, you, me, somebody?

Simply not possible to the extent that it is ludicrous!

Tell me how and I will quickly back off. Truth is, Obama made
absolutely ZERO specific proposals, just lots of campaign
promises that you have dutifully-but-brainlessly copied into your
post.

First, do you even know what this is? And, do you have any idea
what this actually costs?

See comments above, the average cost is $150,000 EACH!

What ruling?

Yeah, another Socialist venture. What this does is guarantee the
very high wages that have made us UNcompetitive by taking away
the Bill of Rights guarantee to a private ballot. You are more
and more sounding not like an atheist loon, but the typical Far
Left Loon who has no idea on God's Green Earth what this nonsense
is even about much less how to pay for it.

I'm done talking to an idiot. Here's what I want you to do, NOW:
back up every one of these idiotic sound bites with a single
sentence articulating HOW this will be done and WHO will pay for

You're an idiot, wholly unconcerned with the facts, and pissy because
the US didn't buy into your fascist agenda of fear and exploitation.

You might have had some credibility if you'd spent any time whining
about the corruption and incompetance of the Bush administration.
You didn't and, to all appearances, still see nothing wrong with his

It's a tax break to 95% of working families earning under $250K.

It is true that there's a lot of "gotcha's" in that statement.

Those that pay no taxes don't get a tax cut. Duh.

If the income is not earned by working, then it's less than $250K.

The $250K is for families, filing jointly. For singles it's less than $250K.

No matter how you slice it, you (the middle class and the
ones who pay no taxes but get a rebate) will pay the taxes
of the others that get a tax increase. Who do you think pays
the income taxes for the doctor, the lawyer, the dentist,
stock broker, farmer, businesses, or anyone else? YOU DO! It
is built into the fee and pricing structure. The politicians
never tell you about all of the hidden taxes you pay.

A few days ago, The Austin (Texas) American-Statesman published a letter
from some woman saying that her family of four had a hard time paying
their income tax of $130,000 per year and just didn't know what they
would do if Obama raised their taxes above present levels. Today's
letter section was surrounded by a frame of hearts and flowers and
contained only letters expressing "sorrow" and offering to trade places,
among some other interesting suggestions.

I couldn't track down the letters, the first one or the replies; they
don't have as decent a web page as they think they do. Their home page is
www.statesman.com

The replies were published today, 11-15-08; I don't know when the
original was printed, or I would have joined in the responses.
Incidentally, Austin is very liberal, as opposed to most of Texas; we
are sometimes referred to as a blue island in a red sea.

I notice you made no mention of McCain's association with convicted domestic

Mike carry more weight if it wasn't the Clinton reign of terror and its lack
of regulation and oversite on derivatives and dot.com speculation that has
cost the U.S. about $10 trillion since 1999.

Don't worry about it Ray. The elections made it powerfully clear that
the nation is center-left now. The GOP has been relegated to a rural,
Southern party. The Dems have taken pluralities in 4 of the past 5
presidential elections, the only exception being the wooooo fear
election in 2004. And the country is clearly tired of all the sleazy
name-calling from the right, which had no effect this time. Most people

Let's see, Reagan, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Clinton, Gore the
Loser, Bush, Obama. That's 4 for the Red Team and 3 1/2 for the
Blue Team. But, what in hell difference does this make? There was

Most people have

How do you figure that? The popular vote was actually very close,
it is only the bullshit Electoral College that made the election
look like some kinda landslide. And, what intelligent leader are
you referring to, Joe the Gaff?

But, ideology pendulums have swung back and forth between Left
and Right back to the Calvin Coolidge days, maybe earlier than
that. And, everytime there was a turn-over, the winners
proclaimed a shift to their direction.

Remember what happened in 1994? We lurched pretty far Right then,
and we will again. All it will take is for the people to
understand what is about to hit them - unbridled Marxism,
outrageous, job killing taxes, removal of so many rights and
freedoms as to stagger the mind, and murder of fetuses at an
unprecendented rate by a president who doesn't seem to understand
that life - and Constitutionally guaranteed civil rights - begins
at conception.

The only thing stopping the winner of the vote - note that the
Electoral College hasn't met yet, so no one is the president-
elect - is an economy in such disarray and such a huge budget
deficit that even Obama admits he can't do it in even one whole
term, maybe two.

Right, and Dems have taken pluralities in 4 of the past 5 presidential
elections. No one cares about Reagan anymore; his governing philosophy
is dead.

Interesting. Interesting in that I recognize all of these words, but
they make no sense when put together in that particular order. Conflict
of interest?

It wasn't particularly close, and the map of districts that went more
Dem vs more Rep was quite telling.

http://www.balloon-juice.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/blueramerica.jpg

I agree that the Electoral College is problematic. It makes places like
Idaho seem important.

That's true. And the shift is to the left, as a visceral reaction to the
failure of every tenet of the right over the past eight years. It's
going to take a while for the GOP to rehabilitate itself, since they're
busy driving the moderates out.

> Remember what happened in 1994? We lurched pretty far Right then,

Somewhat right. We lurched a lot further to the left in 2006 and 2008.
And even after 1994, we retained a dead-center president.

Well there you go. For most voters, abortion isn't the top issue. Do you
feel that rights like habeas corpus, protections against false
prosecution, respect for international agreements (which are
Constitutionally part of the law of the land), free speech and the right
to redress grievances are important? Or are you only focusing on the 2nd
Amendment, which Obama has indicated he's not touching?
