Hmmmm, a year until delivery, USD $12,000 for a 24 mp non-dSLR body in
either Nikon or Canon mount. Note that does NOT include the EVF, it's just
the sensor module. But add the EVF ($3K) the battery ($450), the CF Module
($500) to the recorder and the I/O module (no price found)
So for about USD $20K you have a big bulky 24x36mm 24 megapixel with no
lens. The unti is around the size of a Mamiya RZ67, and looks cumbersome to
use.
AND IT IS NOT A dSLR!
It should show you that Real Professionals don't use dSLRs!

The Doubters were out in force over the RED ONE Movie camera before it
was released... now it's a serious force in the marketplace.. I'm really
looking forward to seeing what happens with the scarlet... especially as
there are rumors of a Nikon MF DSLR in the next 12 months...
I think it's about time we forgot the reflex side of cameras, and the
mechanical shutter, that way we can concentrate on getting the best out
of the new technology, especially getting the dynamic range higher and
higher with new sensor technology.. The SLR was a magical invention, but
do we really need to stick to mechanically flapping mirrors, and
shutters in this day and age just because it was such an inovation 60
years ago...!!!! the production costs of the mechanical bits are so
great in comparison to the production of electronics, hence the
advancements in video cameras without the costly and hard to produce
tape mechanisms...
I want the Epic 617; 261 megapixels, 16 bit AD conversion, 13+ stop
dynamic range and all at 25 frames per second. That should fill my hard
drive pretty quickly.
Of course, according to some, it's just not possible . . .

Me thinks the 617 is possible and they will most likely do it.
What I want to see is a 261 megapixel display to match the sensor. Talk
about seeing real life, that display would exceed the capabilities of the
human eye in most cases. If the display was a projector I would even start
going to movie theaters again to see that.

Who in the world is Red One? I guess I've led a sheltered life, but I
have never heard of them.
The measurbators all have chubs, but at the end of the day they aren't going
to but a Epic Scarlet...
New rebels of the digital cine world.
The old guard like Panavision (who do not sell their cameras or lenses)
have a lock on a lot of photography directors in the cine world (and
have their own take on digital); Arriflex, Dalsa ... these co's are
evolutionary in their approach to digital.
This creates an innovation opportunity and along come companies like Red
One who have an edgy attitude and bold designs. They are popular with
the younger crowd.

Hasselblad, Phase, Leaf, etc. I wonder who is actually fabricating that
CCD?
Roy G
The more recent Hassy's use a Kodak sensor. (Not sure who the 'fab'
is). Not sure for Leaf and Phase one. (Dalsa?).
Yeah but it's a 1080p EVF and a big budget Hollywood cinema camera too.

Looks like you can get a hard drive that mounts on the camera.

Apparently they make their own sensors. Going by the Red One it will be
a real product and a fantastic product but a niche product that only a
few will be able to use.
The fellow behind this company made a fortune with his sunglass company
and definitely has a great ego and the means to maintain a money losing
company for a while.

I heard of the array idea for a huge telescope it seems that's going to
look funky & have a grid of missing data. Maybe some kind of prism to
split the light so that the edges aren't lost at the seams?
