What's your definition of "compact"? Something the size of a credit
card? Something that will fit in a jacket pocket? Something small enough
to carry without the aid of a mule train or a team of Sherpas?

Daniel Silevitch a exposé le 15.07.2006 :

Means for me smaller than a reflex or a bridge, one that can fit on my
pocket.

Not specially a spy credit card ;>))

In fact, after I looked the Net, I foud MAYBE something like a Fuji
F-30 or a Panasonic LX1

But I do not know how the LX1 compete against the F-30, wich seems a
more recent camera...

Is you undersand, I am not a proffessionnal ;>))

Hi Oliver,
Have you had a look on 'Steves Digicams' they do a comprehensive
review
http://www.steves-digicams.com/

& DP reviews http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/ clicking the
links will open in a new window and they show photo samples.... but
the only way to view them properly so that you can judge is to
download them and print them out.

You really do need to make a note of the things you want to do with
the camera.... (apart from taking piccy's), you know the thing,
landscape, wildlife piccys, panoramic or portraits. You may want to
carry one about for that 'quick snap' in which case you won't wanna
bulky one... or dya' just want an all rounder good at this and good
at that.

You'll find some do better jobs than others in this respect - no
matter the price.

What kind of photos? Sporting events, nature, vacations, general family
stuff???? Do you want better than average quality results?

How old are you........ Yea, that is really a valid question, but you
don't need to answer it directly. If you are older or if the camera is
going to be used by someone very young, then I suggest looking for something
with large controls and easy to hold while you use them. In other words,
make sure you pick the camera up and go through the motions of taking photos
with it before buying to make sure you are comfortable with it and it fits
your hands.

Those are both good cameras, but they have different strengths. Which
one is best for you would depend on what kind of photos you like to
take. The Fuji has a fancy sensor that does better than most compacts at
dealing with low light levels. The Panasonic doesn't do so well at low
light levels, but it has a well-regarded lens that can zoom out to wider
angles than most other compacts.

Like low-light photography: The Fuji would be a good bet
Panoramic landscape photography: The Panasonic would be better

You also might want to find a shop that stocks both and see which one
fits better into your hand, has the best-placed controls for your
fingers, etc.

dSLR of a pocketable size, Epson R-D1. Arguably the best one.

Also check out Ricoh GR-Digital on dpreview or anywhere else. Pansonic
LX1 was already mentioned. (I myself have LX1.)

That's not a DSLR (it's a rangefinder camera).
