portrait is very unflattering and I don't know any women who would like a
photo like that . The lighting is very flat ...it needs a lot more
dirrectional shadows. A 4:1 ratio would have improved it...5:1 ratio would
be even better. Get all that hair off her face...it does not look attractive
to have hair plastered all over. Her eyes are turned way too far . And the
cropping is uninteresting and bland. That close , I would have gone for a
nice horizontal and probably would have even tilted it a bit . When I get a
chance I will look at the other two things you have posted about but , as a
professional for over 36 years, that photo has nothing I like . Please try
again & post again when ready & I will see how you have improved . Sincerely

I looked a the "portrait" and some of the glowing praises that are
posted on your Photosig site. I honestly don't see the same picture
that they seem to see. I don't see anything redeeming about the
picture, except that it appears to be well focused. Composition is
horrible, canvas size selection is poor, and you've done the model a
grave disservice.

Photosig has become nothing more than a game to see who can get the most
points. It used to be a place where you could get good, honest critiques
on your photos but now everyone loves every photo and will give 2 or 3
thumbs up just so you will rate their photos well and give them more
points. Photosig is a great site but the one fatal flaw is the thumbs
system.

Unfortunately this has become all too common in this group. Many people
jump in here and post a link to their Photosig entry with no
explanation, no "please critique my photo" or anything else. I am
tempted to start giving them all 3 thumbs down when they do this.
The funny thing is, these people are chasing points that mean NOTHING. I
don't get it...

It seems that you're correct.
I have only recently 'joined' Photosig, but I have already realised that is
seems populated by people who are more interested in getting you to view
their pictures than in giving an honest appraisal of yours. I really don't
see how critiques such as 'Happy New Year, please see my crappy picture.'

I believe that the more often you review someone else's pictures, the
more often you are allowed to post new pictures of your own. When you
start out, you can only post a new picture every 3 days. I think the
points by themselves are incidental.
What's odd is that someone gave that picture the rare "3 Thumbs Down",
meaning that they felt the picture was not only rotten, but downright
offensive. That seems a bit harsh, but I can't read the Italian in the
comment to see what rude thing he had to say about it.
