1. They are outside of North America. Very few people outside of
North American seem to have more than 2 dimes to rub together.
2. They ask lots of useless questions, some clearly answered in the
ad. Even with high rez pictures in the ad, they'll ask for more, so
they can masturbate to them.
3. They ask about shipping on items that 1, they won't win the bid
on, and 2, they can't afford the shipping on.
4. They bid from outside North America and win, when they have been
told by the ad not to bid because of their locations, then they don't
pay once they see the shipping cost.
5. They've changed their identity in the past six months.
6. They ask for local pick-up even though their gas money will be
more than the shipping cost. This also indicates a kind of "Craig's
list" loser who really wants to do the deal, then try to haggle the
price down when they go to pick it up.
7. They bid disproportionate amounts (outside of a proxy bid) which
they have no intention of paying.
8. Their feedback is suspect in some way.
9. They bid too high, win, then balk at paying because of buyer's
remorse. These kinds are usually people with gambling problems.

Alot of us ebay users will bid on local items so that we can pick up the item
rather than shipping.

A lot of Ebay users outside of the US now avoid buying stuff from the
US because there's a serious swindle going on with the extortionate
rates now charged by almost all US sellers for posting outside the
US. It's a relatively recent change, because as a UK resident I used
to buy stuff quite happily from the US.

- Maybe due to exchange rates, import tax/duties and customs handling fees?

- Not much you can do about that.

- Can't you include international shipping costs in the listing? Also, see
below if you don't want to ship abroad.

> 4. They bid from outside North America and win, when they have been

- You should be able to tighten your buyer preferences to only allow bids
from countries you want to ship too.

> 5. They've changed their identity in the past six months.

- No big deal.

- State in the listing that local pickup isn't offered. If they don't pay,
file a NPB.

> 7. They bid disproportionate amounts (outside of a proxy bid) which
> they have no intention of paying.

- Tighten up buyer preferences and file NPB for any that don't pay. Also be
aware of 419 scams.

> 8. Their feedback is suspect in some way.

- Not sure what you mean. Do you mean bought feedback?

Just to add, sometimes it's worth thinking about what level of service would
you expect if you were buying.

Even as a private seller, I still think it's important to think along the
lines of what would I expect from Amazon for example, as that's how you'll
be judged when the buyers fill out their DSR's/feedback.

They want you to mark the item "gift" to avoid taxes. In some
countries, the package never gets to the destination (Russia is a real
problem)and in some countries only an empty box arrives.

The seller has a choice of either not selling outside the US or adding
enough to the price to cover the additional problems.

Very true. I never offer surface shipping because it can take many
weeks but the overseas types go insane when they hear the air shipping
costs.

The costs of air shipping to the UK or the EU from Japan and the US
used to be similar. Now the cost of air shipping to the UK or the EU
from the US has rocketed up to far more than air shipping from Japan
or any other country. That's why there's so much noise about US air
shipping rates to other countries. I used to buy from and recommend a
number of US suppliers of photographic gear for their excellent
quality and prices. It would now be silly for anyone outside the US to
buy from them. The new US air shipping rates have priced it out of the
world market for retail sales.

What happened? Isn't anyone in the US worried about this?

It's getting worse. Last year, no problems. This year, lots of
them. The only people who still seem to have the money to buy with
are Californians. Despite what that retarded Austrian SOCIALIST did
to that economy. Plus, insane stuff. I quoted $10.00 in the ad on
shipping, the shipping ends up being $9.23 and the guy gets upset!!!
Could be that he bid $27.00 for an old lens case that cost me $1.00
though.

F--- the rest of the World. I can only reflect on what I've
experienced and what I wrote was 100% true. Just check how many big
Ebay sellers now will NOT sell to other parts of the World. Think
they cut-off potential buyers for fun?? They know what to avoid.
