No, it isn't good news at all. It is pure political spin.
Government ministers can make all the statements they like, but
individual police officers still have the exact same targets for the
numbers of people they need to stop and search under Section 44 of the
Terrorism Act. Unless those targets are removed or reduced, stop and
search will continue at current rates.
Political correctness dictates that those stopped and searched should
reflect the "mix" of the overall population. So instead of targeting
mainly high risk groups, police have to keep to their quotas and stop
and search a far greater number of low risk people.
People shooting images of prominent buildings in London and other
major cities are most likely to be stopped and searched.
