Hi gang,

I am looking for a printer that will make good looking prints on watercolor
paper. What printer, paper, ink combination do you reccomend? How long will
they last?

Thanks,
Tracy

Check out: http://www.tssphoto.com/sp/dg/index.html They have a lot of
watercolor type inkjet papers that work in most inkjet printers. I've tried
a few samples in my Epson 870 that look very nice.

I'm using an Epson 1200 and would also suggest a continuous ink system from
www.nomorecarts.com .

I print with Generations pigmented inks www.mediastreet.com on their Royal
Plush paper. (This is a 310 gsm coated watercolour paper made by the
Hahnemuhle Mill in Germany and is repackaged by several companies under
their own brand names.) Inks are very close in gamut to Epson inks. Bought
in bulk, I figure the inks are costing me the equivalent of about $8 per
cartridge. The paper is very expensive - but it does print beautifully.

The Generations/Royal Plush combination has been rated by Wilhelm Imaging
Research http://www.wilhelm-research.com/ at 50 plus years.

Back to the printer for a minute. Many people using these inks prefer the
Epson 1160. This is because a four colour printer is easier to profile.
Photo print quality is only slightly less than the 1200 and at normal
viewing distances you can't tell the difference. The 1200 also puts down
much more ink and this restricts your paper choices. Personally, I'm very
happy with the 1200/Generations/Royal Plush combination.

This is all I use my 1200 for (pigmented ink). Pigmented inks do not work
well on glossy stock, for this I use a 1270. The problem here is that,
under glass, life expectancy is only 10 years.

Hope this helps.

On;y yesterday I experimented with this - I bought an A3 sized art pad
110gsm and printed a couple of stylised photos [via filters in PS] at
360ppi medium and high quality on an epson 1200.

Interesting in an arty sort of way ;-| certainly an option worth
exploring.

After 24 hours they still look good .. what more can I say.

I've printed a lot with various HP printers on watercolor paper, including very
heavy, highly textured stock. It takes some tinkering and experimenting to get
prints the way I like them, but they can look very nice.

Longevity is an issue. I have prints that have been up in my home for several
years with no apparent problems, but I know I can get very rapid fading by
placing a print in a west window.

I have printed on Arches 140# cold press with some success (Epson Photo
Printer). However I would recommend a coated paper like "Classic Velour" by
Lumijet. The stuff is great (also expensive) but is a watercolor look.

Tetenal introduced Aquarell paper (watercolor) at PMA last month. It is
350g hand pressed paper and prints on all Epson printers. It will be on
the market in about 10 weeks along with a new Tetenal canvas material
which also prints properly in Epson printers.

if anyone is near Atlantic City we will be showing these as well as the
DIMA 2001 winning paper from Tetenal the new Spectra Jet Pearl Luster
paper at the NJPPA Show at the Taj Mahal this weekend.

Hi Howard,
I printed on Strathmore Watercolor Cold Press. It is heavyweight, and
acid-free.
Epson 740 printer and Epson inks. 1440 dpi......Spectacular!!
I mounted it behind glass and displayed it indoors....No noticable
fading after 1 year.
Don't know what would happen when exposed to ambient air and sunlite,
but matte and rough surfaces are typically less susceptible to fading
than glossy paper.

I print on a variety of Red River Paper Company papers, particularly Aurora
Art Card and Somerset Velvet. I use both an Epson 740 and an Epson 870.
Results are beautiful.

Take a look at
