Oil paint is slowww, takes long time to dry. The palette however is huge.
You can still move around the paint to get the image you want. It is the
most wanted media in fine art. Oil on canvas. Just those words indicate
"quality".

Acrylic. Drys exceptionaly fast. You can create a 5x6' canvas VERY fast.
The palette is limited however.
Some of these are great. But, "acrylic on canvas" just does have the same
ring as "oil on canvas"

The comparisons are the same for film and digital.

This is not a good analogy, Oil and Acrylic are two different mediums
that are both alive and doing well.

With digital and film, it's not the same. When a child born today is
10 years old, he/she will be asking his parents what was this thing
called film ,
and how could they possibly make photographs on it?

Hmmm. Acrylic paint is a modern invention developed in the wake of organic
chemistry. There are benefits and drawbacks to both mediums. As stated, both
are doing fine and there are several other painting mediums as well.

I wonder how film will fare over the next few years as digital prices drop.
It will be interesting.
I no longer casual shoot with film. My 3 mp camera is no match for film, but
I'm happy with the image quality I get.
When I need to do copy work I use slow film and a sharp 50mm lens. When I
can afford 12 mp, perhaps I won't need film then.
