Painting from a digital picture??

This might be OT for this newsgroup but I didn't now where else
to ask so please bear with me. <G>

I have taken several pictures of my girlfriend in the nude with a
digital camera. They aren't porno pictures by ANY means... there
just poses of her back, etc. She is a very beautiful woman.

I would like to find an artist who could take one of these
pictures and make either a painting from it... or a sketch of
it... for hanging on a wall as art. And do it in such a way so
that you could not really tell who it is by looking at the
painting or sketch. <G>

If you have seen the movie Titanic... where Jack sketches
Rose.... that is something like I want.

Has anyone ever had this done? Should I just call local
photographers and ask them for contacts?

I guess I could use something like Photoshop to give it an
"artsy" look as per above.... but i want a BIG wall hanging of
this and don't know how I would produce such a big printout.

Ideas or advice anyone??

Try posting this to rec.photo.technique.people and be
sure to wear your asbestos, use an alias and a
disposable e-mail account. That can be a tough group.
Read through a few posts there before asking your question,
I believe some of the folks that post there do this kind of thing,
I could be wrong though, I haven't followed that group much
recently.

any decent painter _should_ be able to do this.

if you have a college with an art department, you can probably get it done
easily and cheaply by a starving art student. if you don't, then you could
go to a local gallery and ask. the people there should be tied into the art
community.

if it's a sketch you want, you could us an opaque projector (or print a
transparency and use an overhead projector) and buy a charcoal pencil and
some big nice paper and do the work yourself. charcoal is a nice media,
because you can brush away your mistakes. fix it with clear spray when
finished.

You could do it yourself with a program like Painter 6, which has a
clone feature that takes care of the colour, while you choose the medium
(oil, pastel, watercolour, etc) and take care of the brush strokes.

I think many photo editing programs (PhotoShop, Paint Shop
Pro, etc.) could enable you to do this yourself, by using
filters that change the photo into a drawing or give the
impression of a painting.

Then to print it large enough, you might want to send the
edited digital file to someone who has a photo printer that
prints on 11x17 paper. They could use one of the "art
papers" that are like watercolor paper.
