"Good ones will be posted on Cat Avenue, and the very best will win the
photographer a $10 gift certificate from Cat Avenue!"

That's funny... give you the rights to my photo for a chance at a lousy $10.

I won't even unpack my camera for $10. LOL!

Dale.

I noticed that too.
I have lots of cat photos...I have a few on my site...However there is one
picture I have to get...That of the cat chasing the neighbors dog home.
<LOL> So far he's chased every dong in the neighborhood home except one.
I'm afeared that one of these days he's going to find a dog that can't be
intimidated and I'll have to get a new cat...Over the years...many years,
this is the first cat I ever had that chased dogs. <:-))
http://www.rogerhalstead.com/newcat.htm My old cat
http://www.rogerhalstead.com/smoky.htm used to play with one of the
neighbors small dogs, I have that one up too.
http://www.rogerhalstead.com/smokydog.htm

I put them up for free...If some wants the high res version that's gonna
take some negioations. <:-))

They keep the rodents out and besides that's free fertilizer.

My brother had to knock a wild house cat off 2 large coon
hounds before it killed them both. A cat can be a vicious
animal if it wants to.

There is a big difference between giving some one the rights to your work
and letting them use your work. When you give them all rights, they don't
even have to aknowledge who took the photo. It is now their property to do
with as they wish.

What ever I post on the net may be used by any individuals for non
commercial purposes. I only ask that I receive receive credit.
All of my material contains copyright statements which means they may not
use it legally for commercial purposes without permission. That is not to
say they won't, but it is the reason I normally post material with only
enough resolution to look good on a screen
>
I like to have my work spread around, again as long as I'm given credit.
>
However, I do have a problem with the original post as it was written. "It
looks like" a way for someone to get a lot of material with full rights to
use it as they wish, basically for free. That may not have been the intent
and again, it may have. I don't know.

But, a $10 prize for a winning photograph?? That makes it look fishy,
whether it is or not.

This is a bit of thread drift, but:

It's rare that they want to, but a good sized cat (in good shape) can do in
a dog 2 to 4 times its size if it has a mind to. I'm fortunate mine just
chases them home and stops at the edge of the yard. Course the biggest
worry with those coon dogs is finding a coon in water. They also can finish
off a good sized dog, by crawling up on its head while out in the water.

Not too many months ago I went into a computer store. They had a cat who was
always friendly to me. She'd crawl up into my lap and want to play. She was
about 1/3rd the size of my dog chasing cat.

One guy, (late teens to early 20s) was hated by that cat. I don't know what
he had done, (to her or one of her kittens) but one day she attacked him.
And I do mean attacked. His legs, hips, and one hand looked like some one
had taken a knife to him. He had some really long deep cuts and he had a
lot of them ... He's just lucky the cat went up the side instead of the
front. Course, he'd have walked pretty strange had she gone up the back
too. He's also lucky her claws were clean.

That cat was mild mannered to virtually every one else. She would still come
up to me and want to play. She disappeared one night and although we have
an idea what happened there is no proof.

One thing we did learn...No one around the store trusted the guy after that
either.
We figured that in this case the cat must have been a pretty good judge of
character. However, I've never trusted a cat or dog that bites on purpose.
Being a cat owner, I've been bitten so many times I can't count them, but
none were done in anger...most were done in excitement and nothing I didn't
earn. <:-))

Cats are one of those animals people either love, or hate. There seems to be
little middle ground.

We had a cat that would sit on the arm of the sofa, watching the road.
ANYTHING that came down that road on our side, she would bound off the sofa,
hit the screen door with all four feet, ride it open, dash across the front
lawn, jump the ditch, and take whatever animal, of whatever size, down the
street past our property line. I am sure that strays had NO idea what was
happening when that animated thornbush rolled onto them! AWESOME!

Right. The plan is to post a gallery of the best cat photos that
are submitted, for all cat lovers to enjoy.

"Reality" seems to be that lots of folks are submitting their photos.
We had some wonderful submissions last night and this morning.
