I didn't create the website and often these places have been correct.
If you waited like a patient DOG for Dpreview to reveal stuff the
camera companies allow them to reveal, you'd find out about them about
the same time the cameras hit the store shelves.

Those sensors deserve some nice glass. Without those damned clunky
crappy adapters.

including a 24mm Carl Zeiss. I think you will be pleased. ;-)

If that's true, and there's a decent lens selection, I may dump the SLR
and move to the NEX. I don't shoot sports any more, and really don't
need SLR speed. Looking forward to the NEX 7.

Caveat: It might or might not be called "NEX 7". That's just a guess
by the rumour mongers. A reasonable guess though. <g>
I think many DSLR users would be happy with a Sony NEX that offers
more creative control than the NEX 5. More pixels would be nice too.
The 16.2 MP Exmor sensor from the Alpha 55 would be good; I think the
25 MP sensor planned for the Alpha 77 (another model name guess!) is
probably not going into an NEX any time soon.
In the UK and other European markets, Sony NEX has been a huge
success. NEX has taken many sales from Canon's and Nikon's consumer
DSLRs as well as diminishing sales of Sony's Alpha DSLRs to near zero.
The Alpha DSLR range is effectively dead. Only the "SLT" models sell,
and in small numbers compared to NEX.
It is slightly different in Japan, where sales of Panasonic and
Olympus Compact System Cameras (CSCs) dominate. They have mostly
taken sales from Canon's and Nikon's consumer DSLRs. While CSCs have
a higher market share in Japan than anywhere else, the success of
Sony's NEX range has been much more moderate in Japan than in Europe.
In the US market, there hasn't yet been anything resembling the CSC
breakthrough that we have seen in Europe and Japan. The US market is
huge and still dominates the thinking of the Japanese camera
manufacturers.

In the US it might be the "penis size" effect; my DSLR is bigger than
yours. I see some people shooting Canon 1-series models for snapshots.
Why? Must be ego. I shot DSLRs for many years when it made sense, but if
I can get the same IQ from a smaller cam, all the better.
The NEX 5 has enough resolution for me, really. A couple of 13" x 19"
prints shot at ISO 800 look really nice, and I rarely go beyond that
size now. Most of what I shoot now ends up in photo books, and for that
purpose, even the NEX is overkill. Maybe if DSLRs go into short supply
due to the events in Japan, I can sell and get premium pricing for them!
No, that would be profiteering, and I've learned from other threads that
it's wrong.

'Twas ever thus. The same people would have bought a Nikon F5 or
Canon EOS 1V to take execrable snaps of their children growing up.
Why? Because they wanted "the best possible quality" as a record of
their children's lives.
These people would also have bought consumer-grade lenses for use with
their F5 ...

Using the same APS-C sensors means similar image quality to a DSLR.

I was anticipating some criticism from my colleagues for over-ordering
Panasonic, Sony and Samsung CSCs and lenses, Fujifilm X100s and Nikon
D3100, DXXXX*, D7000, DYYY*, DZZZ* and lenses in January/February.
Now, after the earthquake, they are hailing me as a hero (almost!)
because the Panasonic, Fujifilm and Sony factories are located in/near
Sendai and have been badly affected. Most of the current items have
already been delivered and we are among the first in line for the new
models. We have other camera stores contacting us almost daily to ask
us if we can spare them any of our stock.
The UK camera importers have withdrawn all sales incentives such as
discounts, rebates and cashback deals except on products that are soon
to be discontinued. There are suggestions of a pause in production
that might last as long as 2-3 months for some products, hopefully it
will be rather less for others.
Obviously, products that are not made in Japan are least affected, so
not all Panasonic and Nikon products will be delayed. I expect to see
a significant increase in Samsung's market share. The Samsung CSCs
are particularly strong sellers in the UK.
