Given the current state of the art in "fine art" prints if you only wanted
to make one or two highest quality prints from a given shoot would you
shoot slow speed color neg film or slow speed chrome film (i.e. Velvia,
etc.) to make the "most beautiful" high quality print.

Went to the Chicago Art Institute recently and saw an exhibition of
Ilfochromes that just blew me away---15 years ago I used to hand print
cibachromes and always had problems with too much contrast and lack of
shadow detail---no matter how much I dodged and burned couldn't make
prints with the image quality of color neg to positive. Now it seems these
Ilfochromes from Velvia (medium format) look better than the custom prints
we make from color negs. So my question.

If one wanted to make the Very Best, most beautiful, highly detailed
color print using traditional darkroom technique, irrespective of cost per
print, would you shoot color neg or chrome film given the current
state-of-art. Knowledgable opinion sought. Thanks. (were in the business
of selling high-end big display prints.)
